Free to any of my PA buds: Trio of blue/splash copper Marans.

Why are they free? I want to free up pen space and simplify my life a little. They need to stay together. One hen is 3 years old, the other is her daughter from last summer. Egg color is pretty good and I've hatched some from them this year. The roo is also 3, and has frostbite damage to his comb and toes, but he is still fertile and willing to, well, you know.

I'm 1/2 hour north of Harrisburg.

Wow that's nice :) I would love the girls since the marans I got this spring turned out to be 3 boys and only one girl but hubby already says that I can only keep 2 of the roos so one is already headed to freezer camp just don't know which one yet. I have him tales into waiting to see who goes mean lol. At least then I won't feel so bad about it. I'd never be allowed to bring another roo home.

We had a broody break an egg yesterday...day 20! I was about sick and was carefully peeling off pieces of the crushed shell when the beak moved! DH and I rushed it into the house and set up an incubator box and moistened the membrane and let it rest over night. DH tucked the chick (still in membrane) under broody's wing this morning and she helped it out of membrane and it looked ok. We will find out when he gets home from work today. Fingers are crossed!

Wow, Fisherlady! I'm impressed that the baby seems OK. Fingers crossed here too.

Thanks everyone, that post yesterday was just that I know I can come across as harsh at times, and even more so as I age:hugs

As to this not being production poultry, I fall in between the two, would never go the route of a traditional production house, but part of my income also falls into the production category..

On the bright side, you can all come to me when processing is needed.

On the chicken side..
Broodies are breaking eggs and I have picked out a few stinkers
Turkey is down to 8 eggs
Ducks are down to 12
Buckeye are down to 10 but they are due to hatch tomorrow
don't even think on it !

....
the bright side of processing is WE get to come????..hahahahaha....I thought that as funny, like how the invite was out there when the FUN begins!!! ..Hey, If i am down that way at that time..I would love to see how your set-up is working!! Can always learn something that is for-sure!!! And ..I have no issue with getting my hands dirty.

I have eggs peeping under broodies, no time to investigate will check on them after work, about midnight tonight........sounded like it was coming from the side with the turkey, I hope not, she is in a higher nest box and they are not due to hatch I'll early next week...leaving a note for hubby to check on them but he probably will not.....this did not sound like in the shell peeping, it was to loud.

Fingers crossed,

Good luck Fisher Lady, hopefully the chick will be fine:hugs:fl

Absolutely! Can always learn from watching someone else's techniques!

... and I love having 'fingernail brushes' around! My hands are rarely 'clean' for more than a few hours at a time unless I am at work, and then I am washing them constantly! Maybe having to keep them so clean at work is why I kind of enjoy just getting them dirty on my days off!?!?
