Pennsylvania!! Unite!!

Hello from West Chester! I didn't even know this thread existed until someone in the ducks forum directed me to it to get an answer to a question I posted there.

I'm planning to start showing next season, so I'm trying to find a way to get my AI testing done at a reasonable price.I had to call around to several avian vets to even find one of those who can do it, and it's going to cost around $300. That's going to run into a lot of money if we have to have it done every month or two, so I'm really hoping some of you can give me some other alternatives.

Thanks for any suggestions, and it's GREAT to see that there's a PA thread!

Howdy Jade:

Malvern here....a bunch of Chester County folk on here as well as a bunch from Delco, Bucks and MontCo...

Hi and welcome from the Poconos!

This is great. I'm glad to know there are others around even though it seems most raise chickens, not ducks.

Thanks for the welcome!

There are some duck people on here. Wingstone has ducks, but she's been too busy to get online much.
Still, it wouldn't hurt to have more member advocating for ducks, I believe most of us have chickens and a lot have turkeys. I have both of those, plus guineas and peafowl. I hope to get some bantam ducks sometime, maybe next spring.

hubby found me one of his really good military flashlights today. It's not LED I don't think but it's EXTREMELY powerful. It better be. The batteries for it were $8 each! I'll find out tonight. The other one is LED and it only takes AAA so maybe I'll charge a couple batteries for it as a backup.

Loving the broody pics! Here's mine

Cloud is quite content and is doing an amazing job. She only leaves the nest for about 20 mins in the morning to eat and poop and gets right back to it. I never knew how big she could fluff herself up but she shows me every time I open the lid to check the other boxes lol. She has 7 eggs.

little Cookie is doing pretty good. She gets kicked off the nest here and there by others who want to lay and she occasionally gets back on the wrong nest *rolls eyes*. I've been keeping my eyes on her. She stays on her nest once she's in the right spot but her eggs have gotten pretty chilly a couple times. I'm just hoping not too cold. Find out in 2 weeks I guess. I'll just keep checking. Hopefully the flashlight works through those dark eggs tonight for me to check. She has 4.

Auror:

I have a couple of those mil spec flash lights..candling must be an art I do not have...just to let you know, I have had eggs hatch on Day 24 so don't be too quick to discount an egg....

Sally & her hubby are both certified testers if I remember right. She can steer you in the right direction & may know a tester in your area if you are too far from her.

I raise ancona ducks & call ducks inaddition to several breeds of chickens, pilgrim geese & heritage turkeys of various varieties. Eggs, ducklings, chicks, poults & started birds are currently available & I can ship if needed.
