Wow, 29 makes a heck of a long day! I new someone years ago that kept wax in a crock pot and every evening she heated it and put her hands in it, she would dip them multiple times then put a plastic bag over her hand and wrap it in a towel. She left the wax on about 15 or 20 minutes...until it cooled, then would just peel it off and put it back in the crock. she said it helped the arthritis and made her hands feel good for the night.

Yep Fisher & Wing, it's called a Parrafin treatment. A lot of salons offer it as a moisturizing hand treatment as well. The best was to use it is keep a dedicated crock pot or buy a parrafin warmer (I'm sure you can find one on Craigslist for cheap). Wash your hands well and then coat your hand with a nourishing oil or heavy moisturizing cream. Dip it into the wax and pull it out until it cools and matti files, then dip again and maybe a third time. Slide the dipped hand into a plastic or ziploc baggy and then into some oven mitts or towels to retain the heat. Then sit back and enjoy the heat, you worked hard today! After about 10 minutes or so, the wax will have cooled and you can remove it in one piece. You hands should have absorbed all of the moisturizer, as the heat helps it to penetrate deeper into the skin.

Worked hard this spring overhauling a run that suffered lots of damage last winter. I removed the whole roof, gave it a more steep pitch, reinforced the trusses with heavier wood and replaced some 1/4 inch plywood (WHAT was I thinking there?) with 1/2 inch. I plan to build a bigger coop perhaps with some storage space for the goat's hay, but in the mean time... Put a coop that I intend to use for breeding in that space. Here it is!

B:

Good looking coop....there is stuff at Home Depot called "glass board"...its 1/4 inch thick, but is supposed to be longer lasting than T11.....and its cheaper and lighter too.....also, I may be able to get my hands on some of those pallet crates I had last year...the one I used to make my grow out pen was 48"x40"...

All:

Last year I was able to get these from my local Whole Foods...(christmas stuff was shipped in them)....if anyone want some I will get them...I'll need to charge $5 to cover the gas costs as I am no longer working near there....just PM me if you're interested....

WHAT!!? Another drake? After all that searching you did.... What a bummer. If there is any way you can get to the Lebanon Show this coming Saturday, there are over 80 Call Ducks entered! Which means lots of breeders and quality birds. If you can't get there, perhaps someone in your area would bring you back a hen? - kind of a 'chicken Train, but with a duck instead.

I forgot that you're privvy to the entries list. Do you know how that show stands on East Indies? I'm hoping to pick up a breeding pair of those at one of the two shows this weekend.

That looks really nice. I would have thought it was store-bought. You must be pretty handy! I do well to get a nail in the wall straight when I'm hanging a picture.

Nice and sturdy looking coop.......................Do you have some ventilation spaces not pictured? Or is it just leave the door open to get air in the daytime?

Hey everyone! Long time no see!

Things have been very busy here with school startup, a new coop, and new additions. Not in the flock though.

Meet Ellie. Her mom (black lab mix) came to the shelter pregnant. That means no one knows who dad is.

We love her so much anyways

Welcome to everyone that is new

Where are you getting your call ducks? We bought a "girlfriend" for my lonely drake, and she turned out to be a boyfriend. I'd like to hatch ducklings in the spring

Aww congrats on your new family member, She is a cutie!

Anyone have any good recipes for turnips? Hubby just brought a bag full home that someone gave him at work. No clue what to do with them lol

Love turnips! We throw them in beef stew and in with roast pork or beef with carrots, onions, celery and potatoes. Love them mashed. Raw with salt and pepper is yummy too!

My personal favorite because I rarely eat potatoes is to dice them and fry them with a little bacon drippings or butter, add some fresh corn beef, onions and peppers like hash with a couple fresh eggs poached on top.

My 4 year old likes them chopped and roasted in the oven with a little butter and drizzled with honey. This is really good with carrots mixed in too! I made the carrot version for Thanksgiving last year and it was a big hit!
