Wingstone has Millie and Birchen. What colors does your cousin have?Keeping all ideas open till spring!THANKS!

I think she has blacks and whites, at least last time I visited her. She shows them and sometime has poor hatch rates with some strains. If there is a particular color you are interested in, I could ask her and she may know someone that has them and is somewhat local.

I need to draw up some form of paperwork for when chicken is dropped off for processing, as far as being cut up, I consider a bird as 12 piece. This confuses people, how should I word it.
2 legs
2 thighs
2 wings
2 breast
2 tenders( that strip of meat under the breast)
Giblets
Remaining bones for stock
And also breast as bone in or boneless
I even offer the feet to those that want them.
It is not possible to get these things back if they got tossed during processing so I need to be clear up front of what is wanted.
I am not always there when birds are dropped off so this needs to be understandable by all.

Suggestions appreciated.

I would organize it with a disclaimer first... stating that 'the below needs filled out completely to allow for proper packaging of product'....
Then list options for parting it out with a check box available before each selection
... ie.....

Customer name-______________________

_____Total number of birds to be processed

___. # whole bird (bagged as a roaster) @ $xx.xx per bird
____ #parted out, wings, breasts, drumstick, thighs, tenders. @ $xx.xx per bird

On parted out birds...
Breast meat circle one
Bone In/. Boneless (@ $.25 extra per bird).

Whole leg or thigh/drumstick separate? Please circle preference

yes/no. Do you wish to have giblets returned? (liver, heart, gizzard)
yes/no Do you wish to have back bones/soup bones returned?
yes/no. Do you wish to have feet returned?

Please list any special requests below, include a phone number which can be used to reach you at time of processing if further clarification needed.

I like how fisherlady put it. Might want to have an option for whole legs or drums/thighs.

Anne, if folding the bags won't affect how you use them, I can stock up on all the ones I use - every 5 weeks or so, and when I get enough for an "if it fits, it ships" box I could send them. Or if anyone is swinging through my area to you, they could pick up.

LMP, we really need to plan a baby play date.

Ok, so I finally went out to see where the girls were sleeping. They are still doing the cuddle puddle thing but now it's under the coop. In the temporary pen it was in a corner that did have a roost so they were puddled and roosted combined. Does it really matter where they sleep? It is dry and they seem healthy enough. They do go up in there to lay. Maybe if I put their food up there? I have been putting it under the coop so it stays dry and I've heard that the food should not be in the coop. Not really sure why. Any advice?

Awesome job Fisherlady! Now Wing can just cut & paste.

Lady B, folding the bags won't affect my use at all, I just want to make grocery bags out of them. If and when you want to ship, I can absolutely reimburse you for the shipping. Thanks!

You know you are committed to chickens when you wake up as the sun rises to let let the dog out every morning just to keep the fox away. Thankfully, no sighting of the fox in my yard since the initial attack. I have seen it a street or two away when I was driving. I considered afterwards I should have run him over. :duc

i would love to set-up a date....will be very busy though the next two weeks...not to get to get "too" personal, having surgery next week, so have all the "pre" stuff this week. Not sure how recovery will go...shouldn't be too bad, but one never knows with these things....
after that..would love to set up a date...We have Katherine generally 5 days a week, & most weekends. Just give me a holler when you'll be in the area.
big_smile.png
, I 'll make sure the coffee is fresh & goodies are made
wink.png
...will also be great to have extra input into the coop-progress!

**Your girls: is there a way to close their "sleeping" area ?...if you could get them herded-into the coop at night, then close it..that might help them get the idea to be inside to sleep....Like the little coop i have..there is a slide door to shut them in....just throwing an idea out there

anne- are you the one that is/was making the aprons from the bags too??...the grocery bag idea is great!!
Glad to hear the fox hasn't been back for in your yard... i do understand completely about wanting to "accidentally" bump into it with your vehicle

It is so beautiful out this morning..the smell in the air is absolutely intoxicating
wee.gif
....., mornings are the best "self" times...just feeding/caring for the animals...birds doing their early morning thing-the little winter birds are showing up here...no traffic/people noises....hot cup of coffee & the beautiful mountains..awesome stuff!

LMP, I totally agree! Just had my first cup outside with hubby on the porch with the view that Stake appreciates. Had one of my daughter's Polish fly up to join us. Beautiful, peaceful morning. I will keep you in my thoughts next week, surgery is no fun, and recovery.... Ugh.

Our family has been facing some pretty tough news these past few weeks, told hubby this morning that it feels like we are being punished. Also, that it must be because of something he did, cause I'm pretty nice.
. ;)

..yes, you ARE very nice, and I would think your hubby is too bad either.. I really don't believe you are being punished..life is a 4 letter word, but then again, so is good, luck, love..you get the picture

Thank you for your positive thoughts, you are in mine as well! ...I try not to think about all those things I fear/worry about..I try to just be happy to be that I am here...sounds hokey, but..i do understand what it feels like to "have the sky fall" on you....

Wing:

For my two cents, I'd try to remove as many choices from the mix to avoid confusion....
A) whole bird...
B) parted out bird, legs, breasts, wings, thighs....
C) de-boning is an 'extra' charge, do the breasts and thighs
D) extra parts are available upon request (all or nothing)...gibblets, neck, back, feet etc...

I think the concept is tell them what you will do, not ask them what they want....
