Nice set up...your girls are leading a privileged life....
thank you , it has been a lot of work, but like most things, the feeling you get out of doing it is wonderful.
Great job! It looks awesome!
Thank you Annie!!..can't wait to get some siding on it!! always keeping our eyes open for "free"..hahaha
Question for the more experienced....came home this evening to find my OE girl sleeping in a nesting box with one of her eggs under her...Is is possible for a girl to go broody this late in the season? She has never slept in a nesting box and there was room on the roost for her....???
NOT an expert, but sounds like she is brooding...hey, these birds get their own ideas about things that are really back-as*-wards..

I have broodies year round.
She may have just laid the egg late in the day and decided to stay there for night, especially with it getting dark so early.
I have a few sleeping in there lately also, but I have weird chickens
well see there you go..two different ideas..hahaha,..all i know is, that when one on these girls here, SIT on an egg and don't scream for someone to come & get it out of there...well, they are trying to hatch something that ain't ever going to

OE= Olive Egger.....mine is Cream Crested Legbar over a Black Copper Marans....I may have a 3/4 CCL, 1/4 BC Marans roo in the spring (HE/she, is about 4weeks old now) and should be getting his game on in the spring......if you ever find yourself south of RT 80, stop by for a visit and check him out.....

We have broodies year 'round.... in fact we have a Silver Pencil Rock hen hatching as I type. 1 zipping and 3 more pipped so far. We had another SPR making broody noises last week but managed to dissuade her by kicking her out of the box numerous times and moving her onto the roost at night. With the weather getting so cold I just wanted to get a break from shuffling boxes for broodies and we still have Gracie with her 3.5 week olds and 2 other hens with 7 week olds in the coop.
I don't mind winter broodies, and our first hatch of this year was on Feb 14th, but it is a logistical headache to try to accommodate multiple broodies when it is so miserable out, so I really prefer only one at a time in winter.

I'd day she could be broody. I had 2 go broody a month and a half ago. Cloud is running around with her 10, 4 week old babies and my BCM been has been sitting tight on her nest for a little over a week now. They go broody when they feel it's time.

Need to pass this info on since many here know Bruce Heisermann.

He has been in a car accident and is currently in the trauma unit at York Hospital..

Send those well wishes please.
