OE= Olive Egger.....mine is Cream Crested Legbar over a Black Copper Marans....I may have a 3/4 CCL, 1/4 BC Marans roo in the spring (HE/she, is about 4weeks old now) and should be getting his game on in the spring......if you ever find yourself south of RT 80, stop by for a visit and check him out.....
thank you for the invite!..just might have to take ya up on that offer..
does OE have to have Marans in the mix?....just trying to wrap my head around what is considered-makes an OE....
If i put a wyandotte male over a Marans hen..would that make an OE?..sorry if i am being really slow...

i shouldn't try to use my gray matter so much this late in the day...heehee..has been a long day...too many questions running around...

Too make OE you need a blue egg layer like cream crested legbar or ameraucana or even easter eggers. Then you cross them with a dark egg layer such as welsummers or marans. There may be other breeds that will work but I'm not sure about that. I do know that you need a blue egg layer though.

Need to pass this info on since many here know Bruce Heisermann.

He has been in a car accident and is currently in the trauma unit at York Hospital..

Send those well wishes please.

I'm not sure who he is but prayers to him and his family.

thank you for the info Aurora.....
I have been looking at the legbars..they are a very nice looking bird, i like their qualities.I think some where down the line they would be nice in the flock.

I really wanted to stick to having a 'pure' breed in the coop- quality hatching eggs, ( i am in love with BLRW & their color variations), w/ the option of making some 'mix'-egg layers....
I think combining Wyandotte over Marans would make a nice sized egg layer, compliments of each breed would hopefully show...cold hardy & size of the wyandotte & the egg size & productivity of these particular Marans.....Chickadee is a 'project' marans from a friend, she is an incredible layer..5-6 eggs on a normal basis.

Does anyone happen to have a picture of this particular mix..wyandotte over marans??..I need to do some looking up of things...

Been a long day. The mass was removed this morning and sent to pathology. (Not before I asked to see it though). Results in 2 weeks.
I'm very sore and the painkillers are very little help. I chose to be awake for the procedure which may have been the weirdest experience ever.

So glad to hear the procedure itself went well.. Hoping all is right with the pathology results, positive thoughts to you!!
I bet that was an experience! ...I hope you are mending well though, please take care.

My Marans are good eggs layers and good broodies too....if you get the CCL bug, I'll have some in the spring...I think Sally Sunshine has a line going too....BLRW's can't help with...Blarney had some but don't know her situation at present....

Thank you again Stake.
I have an awesome Wyandotte breeder very close to me, *PeakyBeaky-she is in the State Collage area. I have gotten all my Wyandotte girls from her, so was pretty much figuring on looking to her for the new-guy

I absolutely LOVE *Blarenys Orps.!! They are gorgeous..I do not know her situation at present either.
CCLs would be a nice addition.. will have to see where we are come spring..i am feeling totally psyched about all the new prospects...

I knows to not angel food cake, but I saw this recipe today. Uses a slow cooker and a dozen eggs. I'm sure it could be modified. Hope it gives you some ideas!

When did you get your new set of meaties? What kind did you get? When will they approx. be ready? Will you need help processing?

Forgot to add the recipe, duh! https://www.aldi.us/en/recipes/breakfast/egg-dishes/wonderful-wakeup-casserole/

To many questions at one time
If all goes well this batch will come out on DEC 13. That is all the details I have right now

Sorry, I get excited! :duc

We have broodies year 'round.... in fact we have a Silver Pencil Rock hen hatching as I type.  1 zipping and 3 more pipped so far.  We had another SPR making broody noises last week but managed to dissuade her by kicking her out of the box numerous times and moving her onto the roost at night.  With the weather getting so cold I just wanted to get a break from shuffling boxes for broodies and we still have Gracie with her 3.5 week olds and 2 other hens with 7 week olds in the coop.
I don't mind winter broodies, and our first hatch of this year was on Feb 14th, but it is a logistical headache to try to accommodate multiple broodies when it is so miserable out, so I really prefer only one at a time in winter.

Can you describe the broody noises? I thought my broody made an interesting unique sound too, but I'm not sure what to call it.

Is he moderator or a big contributor on here? Sorry for his injuries....:(

I hope it all works out. :hugs

Just got back last night from being away for a few days. My husband was surprised I waited over a half hour before checking on my girls in the dark. Haha! I still have two girls roosting on my bikes on the porch, and the silkies still go to the porch to roost too. Was talking to my neighbor, and he has an old rabbit hutch he was going to chuck. It needs some tuning up, but I asked him if I could use it instead for a separate Silkie coop. I will only be using about half of the rabbit cage, but I think it's just what I need. Yay free stuff!! Pics to come....
