The truck needed to go into the shop. No dogs are allowed in the buildings. Dh stood outside with Sturgis from five to six-thirty yesterday morning. Finally was told where the dog cage was. Sturgis was outside for eight hours in a cage with no shelter. It even rained. The high was 35* with a -7* windchill. That is animal abuse. I finally got dh to demand the company allow us to get a motel. They fought us, but we finally went. Sturgis passed out as soon as we got to the motel.
It is one thing for this company to be against pets in the truck. It is another to force us to leave an animal outside in the elements for the sixteen hours it took to fix the truck.
Heartbreaking...sorry you're dealing with this.

I would think something like a tank surrounded by black painted gallon jugs filled with water might work. I have seen this used around other structures to provide passive solar heat.

Wing:

I had a cousin that heated his 4' above ground pool by attaching garden hose to a 4x8 piece of plywood, painting the entire thing black, and angling it towards the sun....(connected to the intake and output of the pool)

A general nutrition question for the experts. I had a good amount of turkey given to me by mother. My DH wasn't crazy about it, so I gave it to my Chickens over a couple of days. Is there any problem with an occasional "protein loading" like that? I have two girls that are molting I so I thought they could use it. Any ideas?

Not sure if I should be thinking,, genius or what a redneck... but either way I like that idea... simple yet effective...
On a smlaller scale, what would happen on cloudy days or overnight.... I have had large stock tanks freeze....

They will be fine, I often do things like this.... I also feed them the left over carcass from butchering...had someone skin and cut up a deer in the shed and the birds cleaned off the bones that were left..

Sounds gross but think of what you see wild birds eating.

My girls love left over chicken and turkey. They pick the bones clean! Lookie what we caught last night!!!! This sucker was huge. Hope to catch his/her family. Don't want to loose any more chickens!

This is my first year with chickens and I'm so excited, I just had to tell someone. I raised 10 chicks and today I got my first egg from Blanche, one of my Buff Orpingtons. I could just kiss her!!!

At first I freaked out thinking they'd gotten out somehow. I couldn't see them without getting the flashlight out to do a head count. And I had to come back in the house to get my glasses. Good Girls!
SOOOO Glad to hear they are getting with the program!

NOT an expert, but..I gave mine left-over canned dog food last year...they loved it! Didn't hurt them one bit! Wish I had more of that kind a thing for them right now..they are really throwing feathers
