So Bella was right under our noses, locked in the main chicken run. DH: 'what an idiot! She stayed in the run?'. I'm not entirely sure who the idiot is in this scenario, but if am completely sure that Bella did NOT lock herself in...'

So glad to have my polar bear back. :)

Horrible start to my day and it's all my fault. I had finished the Silkie house Wednesday, but didn't get a door on it, I figured it would be okay for a couple days. All four of my Silkies are gone. I'm sure it was the fox. I only found one carcass. I feel so terrible. This was all preventable and I'm so ticked off at myself. All my other seven were safe in their coop with a closed door.

The animals are very hungry this time of the year. I know your pain. I lost my Polish this past month. I am glad to hear that one of them was found safe. Maybe the other 2 are hiding some where as well.

The truck needed to go into the shop. No dogs are allowed in the buildings. Dh stood outside with Sturgis from five to six-thirty yesterday morning. Finally was told where the dog cage was. Sturgis was outside for eight hours in a cage with no shelter. It even rained. The high was 35* with a -7* windchill. That is animal abuse. I finally got dh to demand the company allow us to get a motel. They fought us, but we finally went. Sturgis passed out as soon as we got to the motel.
It is one thing for this company to be against pets in the truck. It is another to force us to leave an animal outside in the elements for the sixteen hours it took to fix the truck.

Yay you found your Bella!!

We bought about 25 tilapia fry this spring. They grew nicely during the summer but aren't big enough to eat yet. My hubby loves his koi and he has a saying for me. If I bring home any more animals he will eat them lmao! So I said to him, why don't we get fish we can eat? So that's what we did. We can never find good seafood out here in the Poconos. We are hoping to be able to sex them and try to breed them to keep our supply of tilapia going. We got a good deal on them, think it was $1.50 or $2 a fish, but it was a drive to get them. Next year we will be looking into getting the giant Prawns to grow and eat. Shrimps the size of lobsters *drools*

OMG that is horrible. People are so ignorant about other life. How would they like to be outside naked in that type of weather? Things like this really get me angry. I hope Sturgis will be ok. Poor baby. Big hugs for all of you!

That sounds too warm to me. Probably wouldn't hurt them, but it also is a lot of energy to keep 5 gallons at that temperature. Brooders are kept at 95 for chicks and I believe a chicken's body temp is around 105, so I doubt it is deadly.
Is it a bird bath heater? That is what I would be looking for, or a small pond heater. Something that just keeps it from freezing hooked to a thermocube outlet so it only comes on at low temperature.

it is a multi-use utility de-icer. It says, common applications- 25 gallon stock tanks, buckets of all sizes, small animal drinkers, hog waterers, surface heater, bird baths. My husband was reading info on the wrong model number so it won't heart that hot lol. I think it'll only turn on when temp reaches freezing. I'm not sure how hot it'll heat it up though before it turns off. Hopefully this keeps the Nipples thawed.

Hugs for Anne, no beating yourself up, these things happen and we learn our most valuable lessons this way......
Blarney, fingers and toes crossed for Bella.. my newfoundland used to wander and sleep in very heavy wooded area's. Hope that is he case with Bella.

Need some idea's for a one person Thanksgiving. Just found out hubby will be working noon till 10. .. I will most likely pull a split chicken out f freezer and just have that for dinner...

Mis calculated feed needed from mill.. heading out shortly to tsc to pick up enough to last till Monday....wish me luck

Thanks Wing.

Haha, so glad she was just hiding (or hanging out with her girls). How's your DD?

That's terrible. :( I'm sure Sturgis will be okay, but that's such a shame.

labradoodle mama, sorry to be so slow answering your faverolles question. I've only ever noticed this with fav cockerels. While they are figuring out how to crow they make a weird noise sort of like 'snick snick' which I think is probably what you heard The first time I heard it I thought of tapeworm but there was none and he outgrew it.

PLEASE keep me posted on this, pictures would be great..... we plan on something similar in the future. Would also like to do a tank of minnow for the ducks. Just can not figure out the issue of temperature control in an outside building without a bunch of expensive heaters
