Pennsylvania!! Unite!!

I got a chuckle out of this today. First they could be a chicken or a rooster. Can someone id these chicks? I don't know of chicks being $500 each. I would like to learn.

For sale two rare chicken and possible rooster we are unsure if one is a rooster or a chicken but he or she is taller then the other and has a different beck then the other. they are both about 2 weeks old. I found out they are worth about 500 each or more. Asking for $200 each, they could be worth alot more. If interested please call me

Last I checked, roosters were chickens. There are some rare, recently imported breeds that do command high prices. Their value is dependent on the buyers desire to be the first to own. That said, it would seem those who own such rare breeds would be well aware of what they have, their value and what to call a young hen. Or maybe they lay golden eggs. If so, $200 is a bargain. Eta: I believe there is a rare pure black chicken, but those look chipmunk to me. Eta2:they are actually selling for $3000/pair if anyone is interested ;) http://greenfirefarms.com/store/category/chickens/ayam-cemani/

...We are in Clinton Co., center of the state..about 3+ hours from you..
I'm cooking the first bird that I actully raised and butchered tomorrow. Making chicken noodle soup lol. Question though for those who make bone broth. I attempted it the other day and I left it go in the crock pot on low for 3 days because for some reason, I thought that was how long you were supposed to let it go. I didn't add anything to it, just chicken bones. Do you think it's ok to add to my soup or did I overdo it? I don't want to mess up my first.

On another note, the dogs thoroughly enjoyed the soft bones lol.
Haven't done the "bone broth yet, but next bird will be...congrats on your "homegrown" soup!

Yay!

Tonight I got startled when taking care of my girls. Went down after the sun went down to lock up my girls and gather up any eggs from the boxes. As I am walking in the dark down the hill I see a light parallel to my septic mound, looked like it was a few feet from my mound, that would be on my property. I think someone was spot lighting back there. I shined my flash light (almost dead) and the light turned off really quickly. I was scared, didn't know what to do, Did my rounds and grabbed my cat and ran up the hill to my house. Told my hubby and tomorrow he will be going out with me!
Be careful out there Barbie!!
You did the best thing by flashing your light..they may have thought your movements in the yard where an animal...I take serious issue with road hunters/spot light hunting.

I suppose one way to define "worth" is how much you can get someone to pay. Maybe he'll find a buyer, but I hope he's not holding his breath.

I once sold 6 small fish, each about an inch long, to someone for $160. And they paid $40 for overnight shipping to Hawaii. Supply and demand you know, I was the only supplier and promised to give him a year head start before I sold any others. I'm pretty sure he thought it was a bargain.

If they were AC's, or the very similar Svart Havornas (probably spelled that wrong), then they might be worth it, but clearly they are not (red comb is a giveaway). Anyone buying those now needs to be very careful, lots of people trying to make a quick buck selling eggs for $20 each that might be leghorns for all you know.

They don't look like the ayam-cemani chicks. I tried to convince my hubby that we needed a pair and to get me a pair of those but that was a no go lol!

Those chicks looked like a barnyard mix to me or maybe a breed I didn't know about and I rely on everyone's knowledge here to help me out

I should ask them if they lay the golden eggs lmao That ad gave me a chuckle.

Now I have to worry about my cat being in my backyard at night. Never know what crazy people will do. She did come from that direction. Glad I don't have my turkeys anymore or they might have tried to hunt them as well. Don't need these people trespassing in my yard! I was glad I had my flashlight at the time, some times I leave it in the house.

ChickenCanoe contacted the guy with the rare black chickens on the Craigslist you amuse me thread.
This is what he posted:

Well I just got off the phone with the guy that has the rare black chickens. He got them from an exterminator that told him black chickens are rare. They were a gift for a kid but they didn't want them.
He doesn't know anything about chickens and didn't realize there were different breeds. He just thought they came in colors. I guess like a macaw or parakeet.
When he finds out the breed, he'll call me back.
Updates to come.

I'm sorry, I just had to contact him.

Yes I did.
However, I just got a call back and he said they were Ayam Cemani. but not pure black. He said one was 80% AC and one was 90%,
He said he was going to drop the price since they're living in the house and has no where to keep them.
