My little Wynter is hurt!

I have no idea what happened to him. I just happened to notice that something didn't look right when he turned his head. I caught him, cleaned it up (there was almost no blood), blue coated it and have him back to his mother. He seems to be acting almost normal. Maybe a little sore. Nobody else seems to have any injuries. This little guy is 6 1/2 weeks old and he's the one that I've seen stand up to the older flock members. I'm wondering if maybe he threatened the won't bird or something :( what do you guys think. Is there anything else I should so for him? Or just keep a close eye on it. I feel so bad for the poor little boy :(

Have you tried Vetericyn? The stuff is amazing! We use it when we do bumblefoot surgery & we have never had an infection. We even used it on our black lab. He had a cyst on his side that ruptured, we sprayed it with Vetericyn several times a day, we did not bandage it. We couldn't afford to to take him to the vet since my husband suffered a major heart attack the beginning of October & hasn't worked since. His short term disability pays less than 50% of what he used to bring home. The cyst ruptured the day before Thanksgiving, we used the Vetericyn for several weeks. Today there is just a tiny little scare that you really have to look for to see. We got our Vetericyn at Stoltzfus Feed. Best of luck.

I have bred several of the freshwater prawns in my aquariums (had 30+ in the basement, I can tell you about humidity issues). The main reason I moved on to other fish is that they are mean, to each other and any fish. Keep them very well fed, if you skip a meal, or don't give them enough easy food, they will start to dismantle their tank mates (literally, pulling off legs and antennae for a snack).

Given that I see shrimp for about $5 a pound in the grocery store (and tilapia for $2/lb), I would never try to raise either for eating. Instead, I would breed Bristlenose catfish and sell them to pet shops and wholesalers, then take the money and buy frozen tilapia and shrimp. In fact, frozen tilapia would be one of the foods I would give the catfish to stimulate breeding. Most tropical fish are farm raised in huge quantities, but a few species are tricky for the big farms and yet popular with the pet shops. Bristlenose cats are (IMO) the best of those for small scale breeding at home. Don't plan to make a living at it, it doesn't scale well and your labor must be considered "free" to make it worthwhile, but it's fun.
We were going to by some frozen shrimp last month and it was around $20 a pound and tilapia $8 a pound here by me. I was shocked when the price was $40 for a bag of shrimp. That was at the Shoprite. :(

..it is funny and sad at the same time...funny because he now knows he doesn't want a goat! and sad because now this goat needs a home...
**this is why I am helping someone else who already has goats FIRST, then if I still feel the need/desire for one I will be very educated in what it takes to keep/care for them....this goes for anyone looking to get any animal, sometimes if we just take some time to do an "internship", if you will, then more people would make better decisions as to actually having animals..then maybe not so many animals would have to be given away or left on the side of the road.....we live in such a "have to get what I want right NOW", right this second world!
No one takes any time to learn first to try to understand what they are getting into...i guess if it doesn't work out we can just post it up on craigslist...rant over-just had to let it out

Well go get it, what you waiting for....you know you could always use it to barter with one of us....

Ha! But until then, I would have to house and contain it in my modest backyard. Besides, if I could take it temporarily, I would end up keeping it! ;)

Agreed, we all need to be good stewards and that involves doing research into whatever animal we acquire.

Today I got two eggs... Very unsual because my chickens haven't laid all winter and they laid two eggs on a clowdy day, and early January the daylights not increasing. They're going into year three and I don't remember any of them laying this early...
