Silver, chicken people are the best, I have to agree. Not afraid to live 'outside the box'.
Guess you missed my classified listing for LF Cochins,,,, it's not too late,,, still a few nice black's here,
just can't bring myself to take them to the auction,,, would rather they had good homes

Ok so does anyone have a younger bantam pullet who could use a new home??. I am thinking the best way to introduce my MF bantam Cochin to the rest of the pack will go easier if she bonds with norther chicken and mine are too stubborn to like her!! Open to pretty much anything at this point as long as it is a bantam!!

Does 'both' mean me too!? Yay! It gets lonely way down here in the Southeast corner! We used to have a lone Cuckoo Marans pullet that never did find her way in our flock, she now lives with Lily97.
And Ray, I would be happy to share with you in the Marans gene pool. I would bring you eggs tomorrow at the dragon, but I've just entered all our eggs in the Unionville Community Fair. Also, we'll be gone from the dragon before you get there, gymnastics at 6p, so we will miss the auction.

I've got to hand it to you brave hatchers. I have retired my incubator for the season. We did Mahroni's New Years Hatch last year and lived with chickens in the house for what seemed like FOREVER. Not doing that again.
Sure I can make one visit to everyone again or two visits lol im not sure... have to wait for more moneys .. thinking maybe a spring trip next time .lol I am gonna have babies inthe baasement or garage in about 3 weeks from monday lol and about the same time i will have ducks hatching as well .. 9/10 have developed so far

So anyone have any advise on this one .. I have duckling in the incubator as I just mentioned ... several people have told me they should be ok for a short time on sunday . but im asking anyway cause im worried .. see on sunday the light company is gonna cut the power for what they say will only be 10-15 minutes early in the morning ... is there anything I can do to ensure my eggs dont get too cool when the pwer is out .. i know that is a short span but afraid it will take them longer etc..and lost a whole incubator when i first started due to another short time the lights were supposed to be off for repair --ended up being two hours rather than a few minutes .... so any suggestions just in case ... would the 10-15 minutes kill them without heat ... is there anything i should do to keep the warmth in or something .. I am really worrieds about this .. they will be a little over 2 week mark (i think) when they do this sunday

Thinking 10 or 15 minutes should be OK,,,, the eggs/embryos do not cool off as fast as the air around them in the incubator,,, not really that different from the hen or duck leaving the nest to eat and drink

if you have room in the bator, perhaps some rocks or something to help keep the temp up,,, takes some time for the rocks to cool off,,should help maintain temp

of course put the rocks inside well in advance so they are good and warm too !

What kinda rocks ... hmmm would maybe sticking a smaller brick in the bottom work theres room there and i could prob slip it under when i turn them next time ...

probably anything that would fit,,,, just something else to make warm to continue to generate a little heat while your power is off,,,, definitely best to do it well in advance, so the items are at the temp you want to maintain

depends on how much room you have in the bator
