Pennsylvania!! Unite!!

We love our Bourbon Reds! We are hatching weekly and you are welcome to come see them or get some poults. We showed our tom at the PA Farm show this year and he took Grand Champion!
Seen your tom at the Farm Show, beautiful bird, congrats. Inspired me to think about raising/entering one of our slate blues next year.
left y guard down for 2 hours to go make a garage appointment for my broken car and came back to this. fresh blown snowbank that is not real solid. with these prints, a fly strip for comparison, and these are to big to be one of the cat's and different then what we have been following for the last 4 dys
That looks like the coyote tracks we've been seeing. Found a 5 point buck brought down and partially eaten on the corner of our property. All this snow and ice seems to be pushing them out of the woods.

I just trimmed a lot (over a cup) of fat off a ham I was cutting up for meal sized freezer storage. Can the girls have it? I know they are omnivores but some things just aren't good for them.

And it was Miss Vicki Chicky that is laying. Saw her in the nestbox area right before I got the egg. And I think maybe Niko the BO will be laying soon.

LB:

The only semi-steady layer for me are the BCMs....GLW was but stopped...then looked like the lav orp was getting her game on as well as starting to get and occasional egg from one of three blue layers...a few weeks later everybody is on strike except the BCMs...for my two cents, all ham scraps go to my pooch....and I am waiting for this big chill to end so I can send him outside to chomp on a ham shank bone....always fun watching the girls stealing scraps from him...he growls and barks...but only get frustrated and runs off...(they follow).....

Wing:

I am not an expert hunter, but my understanding of coyotes, is that they are not an easy hunt...you probably will need a scoped rifle...with a load with some legs....if you have some bait, that'd be my 'game plan'....they are pretty wary like foxes...my two cents....

Good evening all:

A question about free ranging (since Chippy brought it up)....my backyard crew (13 at present) has my fenced 1/2 acre to play in...they tended to wander until the roos took control and now all pretty much stay put...I do have all sorts of wild birds fly in...Hawks,,,,, robins, cardinals, bluejays, finches, sparrows...and many others...even in a pen, not sure I could keep them from being infected by wild birds...so,

the big question is how far will a flock 'wander' mine seem pretty happy in the backyard???

For comparison a dogs tracks have the front toes spread.A yotes tracks have the front toes tight together.I'd say dog. Do a search for dog vs coyote tracks. For the average person yote are tough to hunt.Excellent eyesight make them VERY wary!Ofter they see you before you see them. Think I'd be putting some steel on the ground with short chains and couple swivels.Anchor them good!

Argh, I could kill my dogs. We got home from my daughter's dance class and they had gotten on the table, knocked down my basket of eggs, ate them all and shattered a glass. Thank God I already put everything that I was setting in the bator.

For the none-facebookers...
For those of you in PA who can pick up in Coatesville PA< feel free to email me about Bourbon Reds, we have nice stock that wins every time we show, they are friendly, get large and round and are well loved here! We are also hatching exhibition and pet silkies. [email protected]

I would be interested in eggs or babies from the turkeys & silkies. Can you ship?

Rule of thumb around here: if I could eat it, they can eat it. Only exceptions: candy

I googled it and got this page.

http://www.pacode.com/secure/data/007/chapter3/subchapLtoc.html

I think the rule is that the birds must be from an NPIP certified flock in order to be mailed. But I'm not positive. Are you shipping the birds, or are they being shipped to you?
They are being shipped in. from an NPIP certified flock.
The page mentions requirements for tests and NPIP. I can't wrap my mind around who is going to check the documents?
A postal worker?

Can't wait to see how it all turns out.

SilkieSensation, how far are you from Beaver County, PA? I'm possibly interested in some turkeys and travel east to the Lehigh Valley pretty frequently (and Coatesville isn't too far out of the way). If you wanted (and hubs agrees, bc I haven't asked him about turkeys yet, lol) I could pick some up for both of us and I could meet up with you out here somewhere if you and/or Chicadoodle don't want to worry about shipping.
