I have no empty cage so I brought a child's swimming pool inside, how long do you think this will hold ducks ???

and my strange hubby just told me to set it up in the living room...his reasoning is, If I am gonna run the electric bill with a heat lamp, why not put it in a room that we are using.....
I have a giant plastic dog crate with a hole in the top for the light to drop in if it would help you could borrow it. I'm in downingtown.

I use pools for my babies. The trick is to wrap cardboard around the outside of the pool to make the sides higher. Don't tape the cardboard to the pool, just pull it snug around the edges. To clean brooder, slide cardboard ring off the top & dump pool, then slip cardboard ring back on.

hey everyone! so chick questions. I currently have 6 20 week old chickens. 2 are silkies and 3 are silkie mixes. other is a leghorn mix. If provided heat lamp could they go outside with our PA weather? I live near dubois. It seems to be 20's-30's outside lately but with heat lamp should raise temp a bit? they are currently in my dinning room which stays about 70*
What are you opinions on this?

Hada:

At 20 weeks they should be able to handle anything....but, if you put them out they'd probably be shocked....you might try the garrage with a heat lamp then reduce the heat...they will pile in a scrum it they get cold....geez 20 weeks inside....you are a trooper....mine got to 8 weeks and I was ready to kick their tucas out side....

I was going to kick them out but we had the -20 to -30 weather, didn't want to lose them...even one hen has started laying LOL i'll try taking them out for a little at a time this week. then maybe they can go into the heated coop next week.

I am struggling with the same issues, it's hard to know what is best. I keep thinking "a few more days inside won't be so bad and it will be much better outside for them".

Thing is, spring seemed just around the corner last week at this time . . . and the week before.

I'm beginning to think the meteorologists are taunting us, they know the groundhog was right this year.

The big question is "how does your wife feel about all those chicks inside " ..

She realized long ago she doesn't get a vote in my hobbies.

Not as bad as it sounds, I long ago gave up trying to interfere in her life too.

Hello. New guy from PA here. Live with my wife and daughter in SC PA.

Welcome to our busy little message thread. From the intro message you posted elsewhere, I recall you are "starting up" after some time without chickens, right?

Lot of people here can commiserate with you on predator issues too.
