Pennsylvania!! Unite!!

Muddy season is here. I love the warmer weather but we have knee deep snow out threw and it's melting right through my run. YUCK!

But in better news, I picked up a new roo yesterday :)

well hello handsome!

Hi everyone! I am looking to rehome several roosters to forever pet homes. I have 8 EE Roos 14 weeks, 4 EE Roos 6 weeks (they're mothers give me 6eggs/wk & fathers have pea comb), I also have 3 white silkie Roos 14 weeks, 1 BO roo 1 yr in June, 2 lav Orp Roos 1 yr June & July. I'm in southeast PA, local pickup only. I will get pics when the snow melts a little more or message me if interested & I'll get pics sooner. If you know anyone who might be interested I would greatly appreciate any help. TIA!!!

Certainly interested in pictures.

I've purchased from many independent breeders and from Tractor Supply. the chicks from tractor supple seem healthier. I got a golden laced Wyandotte from Tractor supply in Dillsburg. They get different breeds each week, and I think you can order breeds from them. We bought some blue laced Wyandottes from a breeder and they all died, one by one, 2 of them were paralyzed to the point of not being able to stand up. It was absolutely horrible to watch.

Welcome from Lancaster county!

Or tractor supply doesn't identify chicks any more.

Some "breeders" really just push out chicks. Some do small quantities. Tractor supply gets their chicks shipped in and they do get weak/dead ones, they just get tossed.

I steely sell chicks until at least a week of age. I only know of one or two over the last couple years that didn't survive. Of course I've only sold perhaps 100, and many were several weeks to a couple months old.

Just my opinion, but some "breeders" who have many breeds are little more than hatcheries and are in it because it is popular and cashing in on the profit possibilities. I've seen SFH that I raise for the times what I charge, but they always have availability whereas I may have them occasionally. It depends where you get them.

I went out with a T-shirt - just to say I did.

16 CCL's finally left the basement for quarters where there is fresh air. I'm still worried about them with the cold nights, but I know they will be ok.

About 60 chicks are out so far in this week's hatch, including my first Olive-eggers. They are very vigorous, hatched early and 8 of 8 eggs. I can't wait to see how they turn out.

I'm SO excited this morning! It's hatch day and I woke up to a little wheaten Marans in the hatcher, about 3 more eggs with pips, and the others rocking and rolling :) I was so worried about this batch. After I put them in the hatcher, we had a temp spike to 103° the other day and then it dropped down, twice to 96° overnight. I thought I had lost them. SO thrilled to see that I haven't!
