We got our chicks from mypetchicken.com but I think they came from meyer hatchery in Polk Ohio. Chicks shipped on 4/6 @ 11:30a and arrived here at noon today 4/7.

Yes, it will work fine. Eggs really only need turning the first 2/3 of the cycle. I learned that from an online presentation from a professor of poultry science at the Univ of Arkansas. It was a great presentation, but I didn't save the link and can't find it now.

i didn't realize we could lock-down and still have eggs in there only a couple days into it...always good to learn something new..

i stopped turning at lock-down..obviously,.. but then it was the first time i hatched anything and was trying to be very pro-active in the hatching..hand turning 3 x's a day, because I don't have an automatic egg-turner....I would love to do it again, it is so amazing to watch..i don't think that would ever get "old"..

This is totally cracking me up! And you have four arms? Bet that helps with milking. We have goats here, so I only need 2 arms.

Ok duck people, I need some info. My son's science class (4th grade) is studying embryology right now and they have Pekin duck eggs due to hatch within the next week or so. I know nothing about ducks but my son is asking if he can adopt a couple of the babies afterward. Can they live with the chickens, what are their special needs, and can they eat regular chick starter/chicken feed? Can Pekin ducks fly, migrate, good for eggs, good for meat? Lol. All this is bad on husband approval though so who knows what he'll say. Especially since I'm getting my turkeys soon lol

Ducks do need more niacin than chicks so you have to buy brewers yeast (Found in pharmacy dep. of most stores. And online) and just sprinkle that on the food. As adults they can eat layer pellets with the chickens, But if the ducks develope leg issues just sprinkle some more of that brewers yeast in the food. It shouldnt hurt the chickens. Pekin ducks are normally used for meat but do lay a good amount of eggs. They cannot fly/migrate. Ducks do need a little body of water to wash their noses in. (Even as small as a dog bowl) So no nipples for ducks! My silkies lived with my ducks. Though the one rooster started to peck the ducks but mine are calls so are smaller than the silkies. Your big pekins should be fine....
