Lol my sister-n-law did the same thing!! Of course I had sent her a pic of my Sammy (my chicken nubby) in my lap going to pick up my son from school! Lol
I'm about twenty minutes from the Harrisburg east or the Lancaster-Lebanon turnpike interchanges. Just off route 283, halfway between Lancaster and Harrisburg. (17552)
I have two BBS orpingtons of my 5 trying to go broody right now. They are heritage stock, it goes with the territory. Generally have a couple Swedish flower hens go broody, too. Seems once one starts, everyone wants in on the act.
i have my fingers crossed that mine don't get that itch to scratch...had a bugger of a time with them last year...one girl didn't lay an egg for 6+ months!
Perhaps some of you remember when i built this coop out of a dresser.................well I would like to sell it...............it comfortably housed 4 chickens...........yet I felt in winter if they were staying in...........they did not have much room to move around much. They did manage well their first winter..........I just felt they might have wanted more leg room?
It has the back room as I called it that has the long roost bar with vinyl flooring underneath.
then you can see from the front it has 2 drawers each with an upper window and awning of sorts.
there is a front door, side door with window and wire combo, and another side door that leads to the run on the right.
anyway.............it is also not leveled correctly. I built it unleveled and then dad added a roof and leveled just the roof part! The roof is sturdy and has a section under the roof ----the mini attic ----that I used as a place to store some things............
if you are interested I am in chester county.............SE PA and just message me.
it might also make a nice hospital coop...............or coop for younger birds?
I ended up building a bigger coop and use an old rabbit hutch or dog crate at this time if I need to separate any birds.
I kinda hate to get rid of it because it was my first coop and real construction project..................but I think it would be best!
wow...you had put a lot of yourself into that coop! I remember your adventure..hahaha
..good luck selling Lisa!
I know my girls really appreciate the extra room they have now..makes it nicer for them when weather is nasty & I feel they should stay in..
i know..it has just been an extremely difficult start to the new year here....had an "accident"....trying to recover from that & being that i am holding down the fort ...i haven't found the extra time or physical ability to handle extras right now...all the extending- "garden & yard" plans for this year are on hold until further notice..unfortunately..
..i am so very disappointed...
I am trying to persuade Todd ..that I can handle the extra with the rabbits on my own, but he has yet to be convinced...
We are most definable doing rabbits...just might not be when we wanted to because of all of "this"...
.
I know between the two of you we will be good to go with the rabbits and maybe we can our straw from Wing too...thanks for here being for us Ray..i really appreciate it
It's been a hectic morning already and I'm about to pull my hair out! There is a family staying at the cabin next to us this weekend and they have kids the same age as mine. Apparently, 6:30 in the morning, my kids snuck out and went over amd knocked on the door for the kids to come out and play. Since then, this place has been a mad house between kids running all over the world and in and out of the house. Trying to feed the chickens while dodging kids wanting to see them, trying to trying my kids in because of baseball practice and the phone ringing off the hook! One person asking for chicks and just happens to be someone who loves to talk lol and the Amish guy that's doing the roof at our old house playing phone tag with me while I'm trying to pass messages on to my husband GAAAAA! I just now finally got to sit and eat breakfast!
Sorry for the rant but oh my goodness! What a morning! I think I'm going fishing later to escape lol.
Hey LMP,maybe we could go in on feed together. And guess who has an order for a job on Renovo Rd? Probably won't be able to stop since Himself is feeling better.
I can ride the chicken express. I cover a large area of PA and can help with the middle section.
oh my..now that would be nice...we would have to investigate the mills & what they have to offer..as well as how much of what we would have to purchase....this could be a very good thing indeed!
I am glad to hear "he" is feeling better...hhaha, you can let him know i have fresh coffee and treats if he stops by with you.
..hahahaha...just let me know when you will be in the area and I 'll make sure the coffee & treats are on the table!
It is crazy busy here with the first day of trout season underway, everyone at their camps and we have the Hyner-Run Challenge going on today...so much traffic on this road out here....glad I have No-plans on going into town for anything.
I have spent my morning dodging a rooster who happens to want my blood. Badly. Apparently he doesn't like me dusting him or his ladies and EVERYTIME he sees me or hears my voice he gets ready for attack. Well, DH did not secure him properly last night and he is out and about stalking me. Here he is waiting outside the slider on the deck....just daring me to step outside.
I had two bunnies free ranging after they managed to open their cage. I put out live traps with pellets, but of course they weren't interested since there is plenty of nice grass.
Inspiration! Hung a water bottle at the end of it. Two days, two bunnies!
yeah..makes it very frustrating when you are actually interested in something there...flip a coin, you may get what you were there for..maybe not..i am only interested in CornishX's...and they didn't have any..so, I will most likely just put an order in with Calico Creek in Lock Haven...they have multiple times they put chick orders in throughout the "chick: season..makes it nice to stagger growing times and processing.
Stored by TSC today. Have a bin of chicks @$1. Red rangers, unknowns, and "Asians", probably Blue Andalusian. Tried to get me to take them all, of course. I didn't take any, yet. Might go in next week and see what kind of deal I can strike. Thinking of the rangers, but I always have plenty of roosters for the pot, so not sure it is worth it.

Asians are not andalusians. The feather out black. I have 6 of em. Red rangers are aka freedom Rangers. An alternative to Cornish X. I'm looking for some of them to raise.
Are you primarily interested in the non GMO non soy? I haven't committed to the idea yet.... But good to know that you and Anneinthesuburbs are interested in going in on feed.
I'm looking for a broody.. I heard BOs made great broody mamas but I can't imagine color matters all that much, or maybe I'm wrong? I'd love some blue in my coop again (the cochin we lost was blue... she was supposed to by my broody).
I usually take Rt 78 to 81 into Harrisburg and then get on the Turnpike, are you far from that route? My brother lives in Lancaster too, so if it is too far off of my route, maybe I could have my brother pick them up for me (I'd probably want two). February chicks would be great, they'd be just older than my Delaware and dark Cornish.
My TSC out here is down to just ducks... they had terrible labels for identification. They had red rangers, Cornish cross, 'layers', and 'ducks'.
Haha, I was referring to myself... I make fairly frequent trips from Beaver County to Lehigh County (so from one side of the state to the other). I'm happy to transport birds or eggs as long as it doesn't take me too far off route (unless I'm getting something for myself too!). I take the turnpike so I don't get up to the northern part of the state at all.
