Oh, okay. Then I'll eat the cheesecake myself tonight, and enjoy not having to clean a coop ever again. :-D

Hello all!
I have four 8 week old chicks ina dog crate that fits inside my coop outside . I have 3 grown laying hes in the coop also.
The hens thepeck thru the crate.........and circle crate aggressively. When I move them outside to free range a bit........if they younger ones get out a bit.........the big ones really go after them
I am afraid to let them be together in the run...............but I cant keep the younger ones in the dog crate forever. Both groups have been living together in the coop...........separated by the crate..............
do you think they will work this out in the run...........safely
I am thinking about putting some things in the run for the little ones to go to for safety zones yet honestly it seems like more space is better because they are in the most danger when they are cornered or trapped by the big gals...........
I will have at least 2 separate food and water feeders...........
I need help with this..................
I dont want them to hurt each other!
You just loved putting that out there to see who would bite, didn't you?
Sorry, no one here has any chickens.

Hey guys.
I don't usually post, because I had a rough start of it and chose to learn the hard way. Now I just lurk.
BUT I need your wealth of knowledge. I try to leave my broodies in the big pen so that I don't have any re-integration issues. My nesting boxes are about 3' off the ground (4' for the row above that). They are REFUSING to move to the ground (unlike a Buff Orpington I had hatch last year and a Silkie who hatched out this year). I moved our Phoenix into a pen with her crew after they hatched. I have a Silkie who is in another part of the barn with her 3 and an Easter Egger with her one in another part of the barn.
I just tried moving everyone into a "broody pen" but they HATE each other. I have one that has a chick who already got attacked (but I wasn't there and so I don't know who did it). So in the broody pen the Delaware is on a clutch, a Rhode Island White has a single chick, a Barnevelder is on two golf balls, and a Buff Orpington is in the box that she chose (outside in a shed - I just moved the whole box with her in it), but she laid an egg today (I didn't think that happened...)! It has taken me two days to just get those girls settled. I've tried to move the other two, but they get up and pace until I move them back into the main pen, then lay back on eggs in a box.
In the main coop I have a Silkie who is laying on two golf balls and a MEAN Rhodebar laying on a few eggs. When I leave them in the big pen the other chickens fight over the boxes and then I end up with broken eggs and hatching eggs that are sitting in a box with no broody.
I just got a shipment of sapphire eggs to put under them. I have another order of BCM eggs to arrive tomorrow. I already had a shipment of olive eggers that nothing hatched (between a less than stellar pack job so most of them were scrambled and who knows how often they were left without warmth), & I'd hate to lose these.
Do I leave the two alone in the main coop and just keep replacing the eggs under them 1-2x/day? Then if they hatch will they throw them 3' to possibly get injured? Do I leave them to pace in the broody pen and eventually they'll settle down? Do I just give eggs to the ladies in the broody pen, then give chicks to the other two in the main pen? I hate to "waste" a broody. Should I just nab a couple of chicks for the ladies in the main pen and then give the eggs to those in the broody pen? So many options! Thoughts, please.![]()
20 mins north of Pittsburgh, anyone close?
I had time to work on the main coop today. I think it's about ready for occupancy. I have a Sara Lee cheesecake in the freezer, and of course coffee. Now I need feed and scratch. Hmm... Maybe something to eat said feed too.
I need some advice! I brought our 10 girls (6 weeks old) out to their coop 5 days ago. I let them out into the run the last 2 days but had to gather them all up to put them to bed at dusk. Should I put a light on in their coop to encourage them to come up the chicken ladder at dusk to roost and go to bed? I noticed tonight a few ofthechickens went up the ladder appearing to want to go inside but didn't.
