Hello from west Union county! I have a first-time brooder full of a mixed group of 16. They are 3 weeks old, and I'm already getting worried about the issue you're talking about. Thanks for asking it - it wouldn't have occurred to me until the time came (and I quite possibly may have spent that first night camping out to keep an eye on them

Welcome! If you're talking about the coop problem, not to worry. With my initial set of chickens, I put them in the first night and shut the door. The next night they got it just fine. When I had a new pullet to be added to the group, she tried sleeping outside in a shrub for several weeks. (I think the other girls were kicking her out). Every night I would put her in the coop after dark. She's finally gotten the hang of it now. They do learn eventually. :lol:
 
Good morning everyone!

I can't believe the weather change! Yesterday I was struggling with the humidity while I rototilled and planned my corn (late), and this morning I put on long sleeves because it's chilly. I guess that's spring!

Good day to clean some pens, at least. Okay, it's never a good day for that, but at least it isn't hot.

Disappointed I haven't gotten to do any displays at TSC this year, and now with the AI thing, I guess I won't. Guess I'll have to throw am add on craigslist to get rid of some birds.
 
My new silkies won't go to bed on their own yet. They have been out for 2 and half weeks. Every night I go down and see them outside huddled together. I pick each one up and tell them bed time and put them in the coop. I am hoping soon, they will be in bed on their own. Eventually they will learn to go to bed. Just have to be patient.

Howdy from Chester co.....I am moving my 5wk olds out to meet the crew.....its always a question mark....so far the babies and older crew are staying separate...quite amused that the roo isn't inclined to claim more girls......

Chickens are dumb...especially the little ones......my original girls took two weeks ......yeah, I am still doing bed checks every night.......
 
The one little brown silkie goes out as soon as I put her in the coop. I put her in and go and get another silkie and she is out again. I repeat until the last silkie is in and then she is happy. Silly little birds.

I pulled out my old TI calculator ,,,,and punched the numbers in and it came back....1.....the rest may be quail or poults which don't count....I can loan you my calculator if that'd help....
