Hello, my name is Brat, and I am a chickaholic. I began chicken keeping about four years ago...
When RM(newbies, Fisherlady's husband is Radioman. He isn't on here much) said about letting them know if I ended up with two roosters, I figured I would handle it if it happened. As long as the girls were okay, I wouldn't care. Then this morning I had the bright idea that if another turned out to be a rooster, I could just put him in another coop, and get him some girls of his own. I began hoping for another rooster.

I have a bunch of rainbow babies. Might be able to send some back that direction when I get CC's Lav Orp roo.

I see you list LF silkies in your signature.... how big are they? I know there is LF version of them but I don't think I have ever actually seen one so was wondering just how much bigger they are than the normal ones we see.

I am not familiar with either of the breeds you are trying to choose from, the fayoumi is noted to be very loud and flighty though, so if you can't free range or if you have close neighbors they may not be a good fit. Pendesencas are dual purpose, so bigger in body and a bit bigger eggs...it depends on your set u and what role you would want them to fill.

thanks for responding! the lf silkies I previously had were about the size of small layers, Hamburghs, around 3 to 5lbs.......bred them larger by crossing silkies with cochins, using silked feathered birds again. but the trick was trying to breed out all the non-silkie characteristics. * and as far as that was considered on my new choices, I wanted a free-ranging laying with the least amount of care since I have a great deal of foraging land. I think I made the decision on Pendesencas because I am trying out Americanas and Marans for the first time and I think hey will be a better fit.

Well:

#3 has arrived under the broody.....I only placed x4 eggs under her but checked after a week and there was a dozen....so, I have no idea how many more may have over the next few days....hoping for a lav Orp mix.....(maybe too much to ask for though)....

my tally's are:

x6 6wk olds moved outside
x3 3wk olds, a CCL and two Columbian Wyandottes...(the CW's are twice the size of the CCL)
x3 new hatches....and more to come maybe.....
x18 of MsLadyHawk's hatching eggs with x5 of my CCLs in lockdown.....

its going to get interesting here pretty soon......

I had to look them up to even know anything about them but I'm sure someone here will know something.

Yes, I was looking for an easy to care for, almost feral free-ranging layer. with the bird flu being present, the Fayoumi is very hardy from mer. disease and many sources also say from the bird flu, they free-range like feral birds, avoids preditors well:: only drawback is they are noisy and lay a small sized egg, although pinkish tinted. the Penedesenca lays a very dark brown egg and forages well. I think my heart is set on the Penedescenca because I like the dark eggs of my new Maran flock. thanks!

Question!!! I have to silkie Roos! (I know this cause they both crow and both have you know mated with my 3 silkie hens). Ok so now I have been seeing one of the Roos mating with the other roo!!
