Shadrach's Ex Battery and Rescued chickens thread.

I think we're on day forty of rain every day now. It's not always torrential and it's not always constant throughout the day. I get caught in it at some point every day.
I've been herding them out either onto the extended run or onto the field every time it isn't raining for whatever time we can get. More recently they've headed out on their own as long as I'm out there and they'll stay out usually even if I go back to the coop run to do the daily chores.

Glais has grown up a lot in the last couple of weeks. He drops food for both now and both will take food from his beak. As soon as he starts to eat what I give him I stop giving the food to him and feed them all by hand in rotation. He's learnt to stand back and only comes forward when it's his turn. He's still rather clumsy in his matting attempts but he's improving. He coop inspects but still isn't entirely happy if I'm cleaning when he's in the coop; Mow and Sylph sort of step over the cleaning tools and settle on the roost bar; they not in the least bothered by me cleaning or on a couple of occasion, being in the coop with them while I fixed some issues at the front of the coop from the inside.

🌧️Send some rain over the North sea to please the both if us. We need a bit more to fill up the underground reservoirs for the upcoming summer.

What breed is she? She looks like my little game hen but with white ear lobes.

40 days? Time to remeasure the coop and extended run in cubits!

Sounds like Glais is beginning to figure it all out. When do you think that you’ll let one of the ladies brood a clutch of chicks?

Obviously yer man Noah didn't have Psycho Chew a Coop to contend with. She'll sink anything that isn't built of steel.

They're not laying eggs yet let alone showing signs of going broody.:D

She’s a bantam mix. Dutch x Naine de Tournaisis. Daughter of Ini mini and a cockerel I had 6-7 years ago. They have both the light brown partridge colour.

Ini mini last autumn, 11 yo

I'm willing to guess he had that mouse in a Psycho-Teeth-Proof cage.
