Omg!!! Love the white faced tri color with the socks!!! Please tell me that's a doeling & you want to sell her.
Very flashy, right? Mit's a buckling, we may be retaining if DH gets some more fencing up for me.
got a new chicken over the weekend it is learning to roost
What a cutie pie! Her body languages suggests to me that you may have met your match!
Dangit! Can I see some pix of available girls by chance? Really want tri color since my buck is tri color.

Anne - I don't know much about these things, but what about a dose of vitamins? I was just reading about wry neck and then saw that this chicken sometimes holds its neck funny. It appears that wry neck can come and go in the beginning. (Just a thought, no idea if this is helpful at all.)

I had a turkey poult that had wry neck. Everything I looked up said about vitamin E and selenium. So I bought selenium tablets and vitamin E drops at the pharmacy. For his little butt, I used half a selenium tablet and 10 drops of the vitamin E and mixed them with save a chick electrolytes. I gave that to him twice a day with a dropper and he recovered very quickly.

Thanks guys, but I'm pretty sure it's not wry neck. The pullet is not a chick, and I believe wry neck only affects chicks. She said she can't get any vitamins into the bird, it is fighting her to even take a few drops of water. I'm trying to get her to take some video so I can see for myself.

So I put the hens in the chicken tractor this morning. They are loving being out in the sun on the grass. It's the first sun they've seen in weeks with all this rain... and grass instead of mud. They are very happy although I'm not sure they can get through the door on the kitty litter box I set up as a best box for them. They were checking it out but didn't go in. It's roomy in there but the door is smallish, they sort of need to step up and duck down at the same time.

Romeo is NOT happy at all. He's pacing along the fence making this sound I never heard before... like a mix between a purr and a growl.

Peter is still alive, wasn't quite as peppy this morning, but I was able to count the kits and I thought I counted 7 plus Peter which is a lot I think. Hopefully Clover can keep up with feeding them all. From what I've been reading wild cotton tails start eating food and going out on their own as early as two weeks, so once his eyes open I'm going to start putting grasses in there to take some of the load off of Clover (assuming there aren't other internal injuries that just haven't presented yet).

Glad to hear Clover is doing well! Will the other kits out grow him/her?

Lost another of my older chicks today to the stupid cat wandering my property. :somad. Anyone have a BB gun? I don't even know who owns it. I think I will keep the broody Mama and her chicks penned up tomorrow while I am at work.

If you have a box trap available, set it with tuna & either take the cat to the pound or dispose of it just as you would any other predator killing your livestock.

I went ahead and put Maple back outside this morning with everyone (she's was THRILLED to get out of the house). I figured is less stressful outside with the flock than inside with the dogs around lol. She still doesn't have the bulging crop that that she usually does but she is foraging and pecking around. Hopefully whatever she's going through is just a passing fluke. We'll just have to wait and see.

Go Maple!

times two

Found out who owns the cat. A senior lady with an oxygen tank. She moves slowly and the cat bolts out the door, My next door neighbor knows her well and said he would talk to her about it. Will keep the chicks in the playpen tomorrow if I can catch them.

That's a tough one. What if you suggested that the cat wear a bell collar? Or something similar so that it can't be sneaky.

This thread is not good for me, lol. Now, I find myself contemplating how to make room for ducks and goats...

Spent the day on yard work yesterday. It was overcast and cool. The chickens loved it. Looks like we are going to have the same today with possible showers tonight. Perfect for the flowers I transplanted.

Gotta get moving. Slept in after fighting wild grapevines yesterday. Nasty stuff to tear out. Coffee is good.

We all wants more critters. I don't think a bell would help the little chicks unfortunately. I am hoping my neighbor talking to her telling her cat is killing my chicks is enough.

It's going to be a beautiful weekend! Is anyone else entertaining? I had to check with my guests to make sure no one would be creeped out by the girls running around the yard all afternoon.
