Pennsylvania!! Unite!!

Most of my runs are covered so I've moved feed into the runs and have tarped most of the sides. My layers are in a hoop coop, which used to have just one tarp covering most of the top but sides open, with the rain coming in sideways, this wasn't working. These birds were all soaked through this morning and I was determined to find a way to keep them dry. They've also been sleeping on the bare ground, I guess the roosts we put up were not to their liking, so I made new wider and longer roosts for them today and physically moved them onto the new roosts tonight after dark.

I know this is an eye soar that makes my husband cringe, but I'm thrilled with their new dry digs, I think you all can appreciate it.

Looks good to me.... I'll take practical any day of the week and I'm sure the birds will too!

It's been a daily fight here to keep dry space for the chooks. Just when I've got one group set, something goes wrong elsewhere and I've got work to do. I am just about to go suit up and get out there to tarp and change out wet shavings, I'm also going to open windows while we've got a little reprieve from the rain.

My run is covered but at our place, everyone complains about getting wet anyway. The turkeys want to stay dry in the chicken's run so they cry and complain that they have to get wet getting there. The chickens done feel like hanging out with the turkeys, so they go to the turkeys shed and complain the whole way over to there and it's seriously about 20 feet from one to the other lol. Then, every time it stops raining they all go out and the whole process stats again when the rain starts again. Rainy days are just a lot of complaining around here!

Harbor Freight was advertising a 30'x20' tarp for $50....I'd estimate that's more than enough for your hoop coop....my two cents,,,,

Ooo!I want to get that lol

Well, woke up this morning, fed all the adults outside and changed Ariel's bandage (her foot is looking great btw). But then, I went to the brooder to feed the babies and found that our little runt CCL, Flora, passed away overnight. I can't say it's a big surprise. I've been watching her for a while now. She was just failing to thrive.

This sounds good! DH says, it better be heavy duty for $50, ugh. This man is hard to please.

Aurora, sorry bout your CCL chick, that is just the worst feeling ever!

So we've been living with my 2 very 'active' grandsons for about a year and a half- today we get keys to a new property, not far from us where they can live, stay in the same school and easily vist. I'm thrilled and bummed at the same time.

:hugs. That always stinks, even if it's expected.

@barbiegirl. How is your Penelope? (hope I got the name right)

That **** hawk was out today. When I went to look outside, it was just sitting on the ground waiting for the chicks to come out from under the Hosta. Thankfully, their Mama has taught them well and they are excellent at hiding.
