Pennsylvania!! Unite!!

Hey guys, just wanted to pop in. I'm playing hooky today, and should be cleaning my room right now.

I lost one of my favorites to a hawk last week. My mommy chicken Penelope that was happy to raise anything you gave her. She raised a duckling for me this fall.

If I don't talk to you guys, have a great Thanksgiving!

Sorry for your loss

I need some wisdom from my pennsylvania peeps. I have an 8 month old bantam mottled cochin that I swear is broody. She is flat as a pancake on the nest and has picked the feathers on her chest and belly out. She often returns to the nest if I take her out. Is this possible this early? Advice on breaking her.
Sounds like she is broody.

My silkie had just started to lay eggs and went broody right away. She is a great broody and momma. Right now she is sitting on no eggs and broody. I refuse to give her eggs right now because winters are so harsh, not a time for outside babies. Besides, all my girls are molting, besides one Easter Egger. I am getting 1 egg a day from my bunch, if I am lucky!

Wish me luck. I am going to a new primary care doctor today. I hope he takes me seriously and takes time to read the papers I printed out.
I can so relate to this. I have had the same health issues for years, no new surprises, and the doctors still will not listen to me about what is wrong and what I have already tried to fix it. They just give me a condescending look and prescribe the same stuff I have been trying all along! I hope you have better luck.

I use a heated watering bowl too. Do I hear a Downton abbey reference?
Cage of shame! I love it! Going to use that one...

X2!
Yes, Anne most definatly a Downton reference. My first two cochins were Cora and Cybil, them came Grantham and Daisy. Unfortunatly Cora drown in the alpacas water and Cybil was taken by a hawk. Not sure I will continue with the Downton theme considering my bad luck with them. I have 5 pullets that still need names and one gold lace roo left that i hope to find a home for before he earns a name.

Sorry you aren't having any luck with your doctors either. Mine wouldn't look at the papers I have and listen to me either. Gotta wait 2 months to see if a new drug will cure my nerve damage instead of sending me to a neurologist. Sigh.

Hey Chippy
Sorry to hear you lost your broody....I lost a BL just recently....its never a nice feeling....for me its always the smaller hawks that do the damage, never a redtail or an eagle....
