I think that is one of the birds that came from me. I'd go with molt. They get scraggly looking since they look so big and fluffy normally.

Do check for creepy crawlies, but don't be surprised if you don't find any.

Extra protein helps through molt and this weather. I use sunflower seeds (BOSS).
ok, great. Thank you! Didn't see any creepy crawlies yet, I keep checking. I'll add some extra protein :)

And yes, she did come from you! They are all doing great by the way :)

Hey all, apologies for intruding... have posted in rehoming...craigslist...

1 Frizzle, 1 Breda....these are gorgeous Eye Candy! If I didn't have a plan and a limit on crowers...I would keep them forever.

They have herded 20 girls away from hawks multiple times, they get them to cover! I have witnessed myself.

2 Gentlemen, great watchdogs, gentle with people. Too nice for the pot, but have a date with the processor Monday.

Last chance :(

Wear all black, and soft soled sneakers so they don't hear you coming. Wear night vision goggles, and a ski mask. You creep into the coop at night...
Go in at night with a flashlight, and check near their vents and the exposed area. Look at the roosts. You will see them. Then give them a dusting with Sevin dust or food grade DE to treat. In the future, be sure they have a dust bath to keep bugs at bay.

I just had a flash image of Elmer Fudd sneaking up on Bugs Bunny--

Well, switching out the roo in the pen of California Grays certainly did the trick. I was getting about 28% fertility, this last batch is up to 91%. One rooster with 31 hens giving 91% fertility, that boy is certainly busy. Using a Wheaten roo also gave me a high percentage of brown chicks that I don't know how to sex. The black roo is just much better for making sexlinks.

That's a great improvement. Maybe that fluffy lavender boy also gets his share with the new top roo.
