Pennsylvania!! Unite!!

Hello! I'm brand new to BYC and am happy to meet so many fellow Pennsylvanians! My daughter and I are living with my cousin in Southeast Pennsylvania, not a mile from the Delaware border. We're in the process of setting up our coop, and we just purchased four young hens who are going to be ready to pick up around the beginning of June (one buff laced Polish, a golden Wyandotte, a barred rock, and a speckled Sussex!)

Ok well I am going to ask one more time does any one have any Silkie eggs to spare

I don't think there are many avid silkie breeders on this thread. You would be better off looking for PA residents on a silkie thread than silkie people on the PA thread. Also, look at the for sale postings, maybe someone is close or you could get some eggs shipped.

:D oh boy! I love when you guys enable me!

We are very good at enabling!

If you're looking for docile "eye candy", I think you've just described Cochins. Or if you want something tall and stately, how about Langshans?

My friend lives a few miles away and I hatched dozens of Breda Fowl for him 2 years ago. He kept a few hens and free ranged the extra roos on the farm where I keep chickens. I have never been stalked by a free ranging roo until those Bredas matured, then at least 1, maybe 2, would run up behind us. They never made contact, or I would have ended him quickly, but I did make sure to eliminate all of them before they had a chance to breed and get those genes into our flock.

We advertised for months on Craiglist to sell off just a few chicks, so we resolved to stop hatching them. I know he'd sell you eggs cheap, and when we spoke a week ago he mentioned maybe hatching a few to get some black hens. If he does that, the blue and splash ones will be sold cheap. I'm not sure what colors you want. Are you fairly close to Pottstown?

I am certain we will never have Bredas on our farm ever again. I think they are scarce because most people that have tried them have moved on and don't consider them worth propagating.

X2 on the Cochins. So sweet and docile. I would recommend that everyone have a couple. Including me! So far I only have one because of space limitations. They are also wonderful broodies. Mine was a freebie given to me by Wingstone, but she is my little gem, and everyone who sees her, loves her too.

Ok I will try the Silkie thread but I don't really want eggs because I am hatching eggs right now and I don't have any more room in the incubator but I will do anything to get some silkies

Welcome from Cambria county!

If you end up having to get hatching eggs, I recommend ebay user chickenlittlefarm. I won an auction about 2 weeks ago for 8 eggs, she (or he) sent me 10. I had one break but I think it was my own fault. All 9 of the good eggs are developing and moving. It's a variety of colors though not just one color type.
