Pennsylvania!! Unite!!

Hello! I'm brand new to BYC and am happy to meet so many fellow Pennsylvanians! My daughter and I are living with my cousin in Southeast Pennsylvania, not a mile from the Delaware border. We're in the process of setting up our coop, and we just purchased four young hens who are going to be ready to pick up around the beginning of June (one buff laced Polish, a golden Wyandotte, a barred rock, and a speckled Sussex!)

Welcome from berks! Nice choices!

I've got 14 hens with three nest boxes. They used to lay in two of them (never the middle box, which they use exclusively for pooping

). Now a very cranky banty has taken over one, so everyone just piles in the one box. Whatever works for them, I guess. At least they use the nest boxes. My ducks just deposit eggs wherever they happen to be at the time.

Also, welcome @urbanabanana ! Your choice in breeds is great. I wish you the best of luck in resisting chicken math.

Yes I know the feeling I have a hen that is so stupid it's pathetic she won't even bother using the nesting box she always lays them under the nesting box in the sand no matter where u move the nesting box she won't use it and if u try covering the sand she will sonetimes lay on top of the pan or sometimes she gets so mad at me for it that she just gives up and lays it on her journey through the woods in the leaves while she is digging so now I try not to let them out until they all lay

Hello leblackbird u don't have breeder silkies do u thanks

Hello Roada,

I used to have good quality whites but I no longer have them, I apologise. I probably won't be working with them seriously again as they don't do as well outdoors as the other breeds I've worked with. My hen was very very sweet though, I occasionally miss her

Lol thanks! I'm hoping to resist chicken math for as long as possible, but already the allure of breeding a polish with a silkie is proving too much to bear lol!

Hello and Welcome! Great selection! You're going to have some eye candy.

Just wanted to share a pic of my silkies. I've had them for a week now and I love them so much. Crossing my fingers for more hens than roos
