I might need some... my girls are still not laying, slackers! Till they start laying and hatch them out, my birds will still be small when Thanksgiving comes around. Should I be doing anything special to encourage them to lay? I've read that turkeys don't use nest boxes and just make a nest on the ground, other than putting shavings or straw in their shed, is there anything else is should be doing? They are on flock raiser food which is about 20% protein, should it be higher during egg laying season?

I was talking to them again today when I went to pick up my speckled sussex and they said there is a chance it could be a dark cornish, I sm hoping not. I am still hoping Welsummer I guess time will tell.

I totally understand!!! I went from 3 to over 30 in a matter of months, some of those are meaties and some will be culls so we'll see what I end up with by fall! It's crazy how it just happens :lol: Btw, PSA: TSC in Boyertown PA cannot get rid of their silkies, they're selling them now for 50 cents. Birds are 2-4 weeks old

Hang in there! My favorite years were 8th and freshman highschool! Math never goes away unfortunately, pay attention because the teachers in highschool are going to help you out a lot more than your college professors so it helps to be as good as possible

Even if it is a cornish, don't lose hope. I picked up a dark cornish from agway a while back because Nobody wanted her. She was close to 5 weeks and almost fully feathered. She turned out to be one of the sweetest, funniest birds I've had to date and surprisingly beautiful (she shone in the sunlight). Her eggs were on the small side, and light brown in color.
You can tell right off the bat if she's cornish though, check her comb to see if it's single or a pea comb. If it's a pea she's a cornish, if it's not you know for sure she isn't

how,do I check the comb and u can do that when they are only a couple days old. I am a,complete rookie at this.

Mine have been laying since December but that's because I had supplemental light on them and that's when they came of age. I already had two broodies! One has moved on to a new home but the other is now mothering 2 little poults lol.

I know that you're fairly close to me so if you decide that you want some, pm me. I have a bunch of Bourbon buff babies available :)

Yes! You can tell as soon as they hatch. Just spread the fluff a little on their forehead and take a look, single comb will be a single row. Pea will be 3 rows and will be far wider! Or take a picture and post it if you're sill not sure, we can tell you
