Hey everybody! Welcome to all the newbies! You all have been posting so much I can't keep up. Still waiting for somebody to go broody. Last year three of them went broody at one time. Just had lunch of (homemade) filet mignonette with a garlic, white win end butter sauce. Also had a side of steamed cauliflower with melted cheese on top. Yay for low carb, high fat!

Ancona Ducks are beautiful, but it doesn't seem to be a breed that you can find from the online hatcheries, or that I have seen at TSC, where exactly can you find them??
Luckily I found mine from a local person on craiglist. There are breeders out there that will also ship eggs but I doubt you'll find them at the big hatcheries as they only carry what sells good, same with TSC.

What fisherlady said, but also... getting poop stuck on their butts us called pasty butt and it can cause blockages of the vent. It us often caused by stress (like from being shipped in the mail) or too warm brooding conditions. Making sure there is a cooling down area like fisher suggested should help with that too. You probably want to clean it off right away though before it accumulates enough to cause blockage problems. Warm running water and a q-tip is all you need, just try not to get the whole chick wet.

Thank you all for the suggestions. I'm sure that they will serve me well. I want to make sure that the babes are all in good health and had read about the problem with pasting, just wasn't sure of the best way to be successful, yet not cause the chick more stress/harm.

Good afternoon all:

Got home from work today and the fox got into my pen.....one dead Red Dorking and my blind Roo was taken...I am really ****** off....I am down to two adult hens, a RD and a CCL and 7 junior birds from DH in a second pen...(fox hasn't messed with them yet)....

So, I re-enforced pen #1 and will move all the juniors in there tonight....of course, I am fighting the weather and my work schedule to complete the new pen....
