Well by the sounds of it u may want to put on a plastic glove and feel for an egg in her vent if u don't have any gloves take and old sock and do it that way and it could also be some for eye infection but I don't think that would keep her from eating and drinking and if she was egg bound then her eye wouldn't be swollen so I don't know

Mine I am hoping it was t something contagious but I burryied her with the others that died a throw out my chicken raising year if one more of my birds dies I think I am just going to sell them I I have only been raiding chickens for about a year now and I have lost three adult birds and 4-5 baby's

Why would my hen stop laying? I have a youngish pullet (PA black from dhheltzel last fall) that just started laying in Feb and she is very regular. We know b/c she lays a light green egg. For about a week , no green egg. She seems healthy, active, eating , drinking, out in the run like normal, but no egg? No changes that I can think of. Abdomen seems soft w/o any hard bumps or anything that would make me think she is egg bound. Wormed early Feb, so don't think it could be a worm problem. Ideas?

She is broody, her eggs have gotten very light, or she's mad that she doesn't get enough scratch.

They will change. Molly was skittish chick at beginning, now she always flys to my shoulder and perch there forever. She loves attention and becomes very calm. Actually, all my chicks like to be peted now, and I can hold everyone for at least a short time whenever I want.
lol if I try to hold onnew of my 4 week Olds u would think someone was trying to kill them, I didn't realize they could squeal that loud....
Lol.

Now they are even underneath the lilac bush with the adults!

There must be something special about lilac bushes, ours just love them! It is always a popular hangout in the yard for them...

That bothers me as well, even though he had been picking off my chickens.  I suppose he injured himself trying to get out, or my dog did it.

I had to catch him up by hand and stuff him in there.  :D

Great Pics!  Also love the name glitch.  Are those RSL from an Egg to Egg project?  We are in the heart of one of those right now.  Hatching is done and we are brooding chicks.

Great job catching that fox, however you did it :) How are your poults doing?

Yeah, I know 7 week olds may not need any heating source any more, but these girls are so spoiled and prefer to stay warm. Even I turned off their heating pad, they still sleep under it at a 65 degree room temperature. DH also insulated their coop walls. With all the open ventilation under the roof, I'm not sure the insulation will help at all. Well, as newbies, we are always worried too much. :idunno

That's how we built our coop too. Open eves for ventilation and insulated walls and floor. It honestly does seem to make a difference. Especially when I'm out there in the middle of winter scraping poop boards off. It's very noticeable then when I climb back out and instantly start freezing again lol.

I Finnally decided to go ahead and give Honey (wheaten Marans) and Ana (SPR from fisherlady) some eggs some they've been stubbornly sitting for almost a week now. Both girls are first timers so we'll see how they do. I gave them each 6. Elsa (SPR from fisherlady) seems like she may be thinking of going broody also. I'll have to watch and see. Maybe if she decides to, I'll try getting her and her sister to share a large box and a clutch. @fisherlady, your girls tend to share right?

X2, ours is elevated on posts, floor and walls are insulated but eves are open for ventilation. It is always warmer in there and stays dry in the winter. Makes it comfortable to do coop chores until I have to go back outside.

Yes, our hens seem to cooperate quite well, you could move the 6 from the Marans to Elsa and reset the Marans with new eggs if you wanted, but for that to work she would have to commit pretty quick.

sorry, 2 different problems happening to 2 different chickens! :)
one stopped laying, but otherwise healthy
one separated b/c she is lethargic, not eating/drinking and swollen eye (but not shut), also she kinda twitches her head/neck back in a turning motion to the side of her good eye. Almost looks like a reflex action or something?
