I don't incubate, so can't comment on the humidity question. ... but what breed? There is a feathering variation in some breeds called 'naked necks', I think with silkies they are called 'showgirls'....

These are from some Easter Eggers hens we got about 40 minutes from home. Some are from the 3 hens we have and some were from eggs we brought home. Ours do not have naked necks, and I don't remember seeing any naked necks in her flock, lol. Some eggs could have been a little past prime incubating time perhaps?, or maybe I did not have something quite right? My daughter said she saw something online about them rubbing them off while hatching, but I have not found it, and we have only hatched once before, Many years ago and had no naked necks then.

My step-dad says they look like turkey buzzards, lol.

Not good pics, but here are the Easter Eggers hens that some of these chocks are from. The two larger, not the smaller brown. We were told she is infertile.

Beautiful girls, and certainly not naked necks! The one on the left looks like a Salmon Favorelle cross...

Probably a hatching anomaly then, and most likely a temporary thing since chicks go through a couple of molts at a very young age. Will be interesting to see their progress.

They both have a little bit of a muff, you can't really see it here in the picture though, the little brown one, not so much. But all three lay blue/green eggs. I need to pull out the good camera a get some good pictures of them.

Thanks. :)
Yes, just odd, lol. They seem strong though, just bald.

I tried to do a bit of reading, what little I found has mentioned that bald patches sometimes happens when they get some of the inner shell lining stuck to their down and it pulls it off, creating the bald areas.
Someone who hatches frequently can probably answer better. Maybe go to the 'April hatch-a-long' thread and ask Sally or Mike. Sally had a link to it on one of her last posts here a couple of days ago.
