Pennsylvania!! Unite!!

I think it's the Welsummer, but could be our BCM? It's a first, so trying to watch and figure out who is laying what. I just went out again thinking for sure there would be an egg from the BCM and CCL since they were both fighting over boxes and working on nesting, but no eggs in any of the boxes! :rolleyes:  They don't make it easy to figure it out!

Thanks!

Ya I know what egg comes from every hen every day. It's pretty easy once you see what hen lays color and spots and speckles and size.

Ok all i have a,quick question, i am getting 3 laying hens tomorrow and my girls i have noe are 15 weeks old and not laying yet. I am out of feed so....Are my young girls old enough to start giving layer feed, if not how do i separate feed

I think I probably gave my last mixed flock layer at about that age, but recommendation is 18 weeks. You can give everyone the same feed, just put out grower/finisher + a separate container of oyster shell. The girls that need the extra calcium will eat the oyster shell. When the young girls hit 18 weeks, just put out the layer feed again for all.

. . . or just layer for all now

Hens stolen by raccoon. Please email if you have or know of source to get new hens. I am already aware of Pickering Valley Feed. Thanks.
@dheltzel always has chicks
There are probably a few others on here that could help you out as well.

Sorry you lost your hens. :(

Gave little chicky another warm bath. Lubed, gloved up and started working the vent area around that eggbound egg again while she rested in the water. Spent a good deal of time massaging and moving all around the egg. I could do complete circles around it, but she just couldn't seem to expel it. Nothing is more frustrating than knowing the solution, but not being able to resolve the problem. Gave up and wrapped her in a towel to let her dry and rest while I cleaned up. Picked her up to dry her some and could see a light brown "bubble" exiting after just a short time. Was able to help her "deliver" a perfect sized soft-shelled pullet egg. I am so relieved and hope I never have to do anything like that again! Massaged the prolapse back in and will let her recoup in her crate while we monitor her healing.

Did I mention how relieved I am?! Whew . . .

Pic of that stubborn egg cause I know you're the kind of people that appreciate such things!

The girls you have, what breed are they and have their combs reddened up yet? Pullets start laying but they also continue growing at the same time for a while. The all flock is higher in protein but lacks the calcium of layers, which chickens need for laying. You can meet both needs by keeping them all on the flock grower or all flock and supplying them a separate container of calcium. Then once everyone is laying switch over to the layer or you can keep doing this permanently.

Thank u ......right noe i have 1 silver laced wyandotte 1 speckled sussex .....2 barred rocks ...1 black australorp and a dark cornish they are 15 weeks the SLW is starting to get a deep pink in her comb not red yet though and the others,are all pink. I am adding 3 1 year old Easter eggers that are all laying. I use dumor feed so i am assuming the grower/finisher feed for all and then put out some oyster shell for the 3 that are laying already.
