Today I went through my old neighborhood and someone had a lovely rocking chair out with the trash. Picked that sucker up too! :)
It is sights like this out in the chicken runs that keep us using broodies...

Gracie had her latest group out and about and Pidgy just hatched hers yesterday...

I cant wait til I have a broody again!! Hopefully one of Dheltzel's stock will go broody next year.

When I posted an update about my rooster mating with the chicken everyone thought was a roo I just wanted to let everyone know that she is laying. Here is a pic of her I I just collected.

Her egg is on the right and her sister from another egg batch is on the left so you can see the color difference.
Looks great! Its wonderful you have another layer!

Oh my goodness. I was shocked this morning to watch the turkeys mating. I hope its just because he's learning, but Tom jumped on Wheezys (She has a respiratory infection I think) back, and stood there for several seconds. I don't know if he was trying to get his balance or what. Then he did his thing. Throughout the whole thing, she looked like she was being squashed and could barely breathe (mouth open, gasping).

Then she coughed/wheezed for a few minutes after. I hope this is because he's practicing, and she's sick. Is this normal, @dheltzel , or anyone else with tukeys?

I'm not sure I never had Anyone mate with each other before. And I have 20-21 eggs in the bator, so I will be adding to the flock here this fall/winter so we will be going up from 15 birds and we are tight on space now because the turkeys but I think we might be getting rid of all the turkeys but the one because she thinks she is a chicken and wants nothing to do with the others. And I will update everyone with the hatch.

:lau The tom will literally dance on her back before mating with her. It is quite a sight to see!

Totally normal. Just wait until the hens start crying while he's dancing on their back! It's rough but that's their way.
