I'm reposting this question because I think it got overlooked.

So Rusty Shackleford seems to be such a sweety so far. I've never had a Roo for long before. Do they show more attitude after they sexually mature? Or if he's calm now, will he stay that way? He seems to follow me around a bit and is pretty quiet. Today, when I picked him up to go to bed, thankfully my husband was watching. I told him Rusty was a very nice boy. When I picked him up, he didn't run, fight, or make a peep. Hubby was impressed. One step closer to keeping him! (The rooster that is, my husband is definitely staying. lol.png ).

My evil one went mean when he became the only rooster. It happened to be when he was hitting maturity. So, I hope he stays calm, but time will tell.

I thought everyone would like to see the new tank that we picked up yesterday for hubby's piranhas. The best thing is, the lady didn't want it anymore, and gladly gave it up for some chicks in the spring. Perfect kind of trade

We'll be keeping a very close eye on her. If anything like that starts to happen, she will be removed and rehomed or even get her own tank. I've done a lot of research on the compatability of piranhas with other fish. There are very few that can coexist with them and only when kept well fed.

My broody is at 12 days now, still sitting tight, Should I be concerned that every day I have to move new eggs out from under her??? It was brought up in the hatch a long that if other hens are laying in there they could break the eggs during the last few days, Does anyone have any experience in having a broody in the coop/nestbox with free access from other hens? Now I am starting to worry, and it seems like she may be too far along in the process to successfully move (and I dont have an incubator to take over)

I left mine in the box she wanted to brood in. The other girls let her have the one corner and laid in the other. I don't have the box partitioned. No one broke any eggs.

Piranhas are stealth fin nippers. Puffers and Gambusia have a reputation for that as well, but piranhas will nip fins down to the nubs and even a little more. They often nip each others fins while they are traveling as a group, it is rare to find a large piranha with complete fins unless it is kept in isolation (as cruel as keeping a chicken by itself, they are schooling fish).

I have his two younger brothers in the brooder and they are both quit inquisitive and friendly....Dad is not that friendly so I guess its the mom's genes......he will definitely get his game on with the girls but there is no corollary between human interactions and chook interactions,...most likely if he's friendly now, he should be in the future...

We're also doing an experiment this year. We've been researching a lot into hydroponics and decided to dig up one of our pepper plants and one of our tomatoes to try to keep going over the winter with the hydroponic system. For the first week or so, they looked really sad and wilted but they've perked back up and have some awesome new growth on them

I'm really excited that we may have fresh tomatoes and peppers in December lol

I have two 30gal tanks (filters/heaters/pumps/lights for one tank)...I also have a new stand that will support a 55gal tank....I used on tank to create a raft hydroponic system....grew some herbs etc,,,my lighting solution was not up to standards and I shut everything down....so, if you are interested is swapping some chooks for my 'gear' PM me....looking to do something in the spring....
