@Dhetzel I'd love to get my hands on some Bantam Amauracana Eggs if you are still getting them and
@Auroradream some Bourbon Red Turkey Eggs too.

Let me know if you've got em.

Had me a lil fire at sunset tonight, still cleaning up dropped limbs from all the wind we've had:

Hi! Long time no see!

I hope your new incubator works well, what did you get?

I'd be more than happy to send you some turkey eggs once they all get in the swing of things but they'd be quite a mixed bag now. I have Adam Still covering the girls and he's in charge but I also have a mottled black tom in there too. They've got the 2 BR girls, 1 bronze, 1 red bronze, 2 royal palms, and 2 mottled blacks. The eggs could be any of them lol

Nice fire! I'm freezing here lol. It looks so welcoming!

That picture was deceiving, The fallen branches were too wet to catch fire and we ended up at the Ice rink selling girl scout cookies (gave me a little time to catch up on BYC posts, and stalk some cow person LOL).

The incubator I picked up is for classroom hatches, it's very small. My daughter has been asking for quite some time to be able to hatch eggs at school, So I'm giving it a test run.

We eat the turkeys that we hatch, so I'm not worried about crossed breeds as long as they're large. But so many of the eggs were jostled in the mail last year, I'd like to catch the 'chicken train' when it's available. I'm using the turkey coop for chickens right now, guess I'll have to build a new one and put turkeys in the pasture with the future cows

Unfortunately, every egg I've set so far has been infertile. I might have to replace the roo with one of his brothers.
I have been getting good fertility with the LF black Ameraucanas. The breeders are awesome birds, straight from one of the top show breeders, John Blehm. The grand champion at this year's Farmshow was a black LF Am roo, and he looked identical to the ones I have. I am very impressed with all the colors I got from John, but there is a reason blacks usually beat out the other colors in shows.

I was Interested in getting Bantam Ameraucanas, I like that they've got blue eggs from a compact bird, so keep me in mind if you get fertile eggs from them. We completely missed the Farm Show this year. First time in about 10 years. The ILT vaccine kind of puts me off from showing there, but we still like to have the kids participate in showmanship at least. There were so few birds at this show that we didn't even bother with showmanship. I sure hope poultry makes a come back in the future.

Thanks for thinking of me Stake, we were indeed wiped out of Polish last year. Also lost every bird that was hatched throughout 2016. The eggs I set last night are our 'new start'. I'm looking forward to getting our poultry back up to standard. Speaking of Standards, I'm not a Silkie breeder but I did check the Standard of Perfection for you, Stake and both bearded and non bearded are accepted. If you're thinking of preparing some for show, I'd be happy to send you information.
Thank you Anne! After a few glasses of wine last night...cows (free ones at that!) seemed like a pretty good idea. Lol. I'm still waiting to hear back.

Hey Blarney:

I am in a similar situation in that I lost all young'ins from 2016 except one OE boy (Rusty's younger brother).....I did get a solo hatch on a silkie, and picked up some brooder mates from DH.....here's the silkie,,,hope its a 'she'......

My Lavender Ops are finally starting to lay!!

Added another roost today to see if it helps keep the youngsters out of the boxes

Hopefully they like this new dust bath!

Holy Molasses How do you test all your birds for NPIP it must take three days!!! WOW!

I'm not NPIP and don't intend to be. We have a *lot* of free ranging chickens and don't feel the need to give that up to comply with a bunch of entirely arbitrary rules. Did you know if you have more than a certain number of birds, you MUST get your feed delivered in bulk instead of bags? What does that have to do with biosecurity?

My first turkey eggs of the season just went in lockdown and a few are already internally pipped! So far, out of the 17 that I set total, only 1 failed to develope. Fertility is excellent! I can't wait to see the babies! I won't be surprised if a couple are hatched by tomorrow morning lol.
