Why do they insist in being on the deck and right next to the kitchen door? I just cleaned the deck. Lol :p

Edited to add: I just noticed my dog looks like Alf in this picture! Haha!

I love your turkeys! Brought it up with hubby again today!

If you want broodies, you need some silver penciled rocks from fisherlady. I swear, brooding is in their blood!

They are really cool looking. I'm trying to learn as much as I can about it so I'm ready!

Our new boys were up and eating from my hubbies hand! So one of them was castrated the day before we got them. So two days ago. Could that be affecting him too?

We did it!! We got the Banties and RIR together and everyone is fine!!!! Roosters are getting along pretty well. Our first successful merger.

Now we can work on Free range!! I was so nervous!

So, what's this I see about the chicken train operating sometime around Easter??? I really shouldn't get more chickens, buuuuut... I have been thinking about getting a couple more blue/olive layers, and/or BCM. I can only have hens, though, so I have to stick with autosexing chicks or started pullets/hens. If there's a chance that a good olive egger, blue egg black sex link, LF lavender or silver ameraucana, and/or BCM might be available to head towards Pittsburgh, I'd love to know! @dheltzel , I think you're the most likely source of everything I mentioned, but if others have them, I'm all ears. :)

Asking all hatching experts @MotorcycleChick, @dheltzel. @Sally Sunshine, @Auroradream26 :

Today is day 30 for hatching, chicken eggs were added on day 6 or 7, whichever gave them 21 days to finish.

Okay so worst case scenario, the turkeys hatch first, and she leaves the nest while the chicken chicks are pipping or hatching. Can I put them in the incubator with the other eggs and just turn up the humidity temporarily?

I'm hoping Mama hen stays put, and I will bring her food and water tomorrow so she doesn't have to jump off right away. So excited to see the first one though! I walked in and he was just there looking at me! :jumpy. I thought I saw the egg he hatched from and was going to remove it, but then I saw it was another egg that had zipped!

She probably won't get up if they are ready to hatch. She can hear them in there.
As long as the eggs are warm, they will hatch.
In your bra even. Farmers' wives used to put half hatched eggs in a warm oven to finish. Don't forget to cover the bottom rack with foil to keep chicks off the coils.
Or, stick them in the incubator. The other eggs won't be hurt by high humidity for a short time.
** Disclaimer. Lowering and raising humidity throughout is bad. That is how storms are made.

Anne:

Not an expert, but I have also seen where mama will let a chick wander off and not go get them back if they are sitting on the eggs....my two cents.....

She will usually stay put for 3 days before leaving with whatever hatches. It would be fine to move any left over to the incubator to hatch. I typically bring food and water to the broody on her nest during that "lockdown" period.

Also, make sure that the chicks can't get stuck away from her in any way. She won't leave the rest of the eggs to retrieve the baby. I've lost a couple that way in the past.
