@yoopergirl1211 , just embrace it and paint all your nails purple with BluKote--it can be a new look!

I just added a box of disposable latex gloves to my last Amazon order ($9.25 for 100--I have found myself wishing for them several times lately, including dealing with BluKote, so I think they will be a good addition to my chicken first aid cabinet. :)

I always try to use the gloves, then decide I only need one hand to be gloved and I will spray with the other. Not sure how it happens, but I usually have purple on both hands when I'm done.

BTW, Harbor Freight has a good deal on Nitrile disposable gloves. But going there doesn't actually save money, given the other stuff "I need".

Ha ha, I know how that goes! I have the same problem in Tractor Supply, Target, and the grocery store. I go in for one or two things, come out with a cartful--always seems better to buy now than to have to come back for a second trip!

That actually brings up another question I had ( I do apologize hubby is gone, I'm a loner, and I kinda hate Facebook so I'll probably be yacking a lot on here for a bit...) What is a good list for first aid kit. Ive been slowly building up with stuff for ducks, chicks, hens, and goats but I hate having to run every time something happens. I should probably look up a thread about it but what are top ones for you guys. And what about frost bite on combs. My coop is warmer then ever but my roo is looking terrible.

I think that one of my English Orps is toying with being broody! She has made a nest on the floor and sits firmly on it and her daily egg until 3pm each day and makes pterodactyl noises at me if I disturb her. Should I give her fertile eggs? Chicks? A cat carrier for privacy? Wait and see if she sits longer each day?
. My silkie is doing the same thing tonight. I thought with the cold weather she wouldn't become broody. Let's see how she does tomorrow. I will let her be, I even gave her a EE egg I found in another next box. I wouldn't mind more silkies. should the EE egg hatch, it will be a silkie EE mix. Need some of this snow to melt. It was a treck to the coop

Brooding can be a year round event if the hens are in the mood...we currently have a hen with 4 week old chicks (silver pencil rock), 2 hens with 2 week old chicks(both silkies), 1 hen with 1 week old chicks (jersey giant) and a silkie mix due tomorrow and an EE due tomorrow.

A silkie/EE mix would be super cute, feathery legs and fluffy cheeks!
