How long do fresh eggs keep? Unrefrigerated? Pulled out from under a broody?
I put 10 Coronation Sussex eggs under my broody Orpington (April 1) and found 18 eggs under her today. I actually caught her rolling another hen's new laid egg under her! (And I thought I was a hoarder!)
Well there doesn't seem to be any interest in the Brinseas. I'm going to go ahead and post them to all of BYC. I just thought I'd try here first because I didn't really want to ship them long distances.

I'd put up a CL or Pennswoods ad now for $10 each and repost it every week or so until you get them sold. The people that buy them first get more to pick from, even though they are younger that for your later customers.I just agreed to take on 25 RIR pullets that are 2 weeks old from a guy who didnt realize how much work they are. He wants 50 bucks for them. Whats the best age to sell them? I have room (turning porch into brooder) and time. Already have about 50 babies in different brooders lol. Whats 25 more. Still can't believe hubby agreed though

I'm sure I could sell them for eating, but the ones that I don't incubate I sell to a couple that incubates them for future sales. I get $3 / dozen either way, but I have to wash and dry the ones for eating.

It's not a full time job, I just go to the farm with the chickens after work and almost all day on weekends. I am hiring a part-time helper next month, and I get some help from family. I have a lot of pullets to grow out for sale later. We sell our eggs $2 a dozen and we don't wash ours. I've read that washing the eggs destroys the protective film and introduces bacteria into the egg. We only sell the ones that are clean with no poop on the egg. We eat the ones that are dirty. Just crack the egg and it's fine, poop doesn't get in the food. I can't believe you get 100+ eggs a day. Is your chicken farm a full-time job?! We are sadly limited to how many we can have so I have no idea what it's like to have more, but I do dream!
I only have 7 adults and 7 chicks, and I go out every morning plus every night, with many check-ins throughout the day. And I also spend my time off outside cleaning up. I can't imagine how much work it must be with so many chickens! How many do you have? Also, have you shared pictures and stories of your setup on BYC anywhere? I would love to see how you have it all set up, as one day I want to have many more chickens as well as ducks and turkeys. It's not a full time job, I just go to the farm with the chickens after work and almost all day on weekends.
