Still new to PA wild life. Is this snake safe?

Yep, it's a garter. You may see them sunbathing on rocks when the sun is out. They may bite if you pick them up, but are not poisonous. They will also poop very stinky poop to make you drop them. I love snakes, so I have personally had that experience.

Talked to PSU PADLS about the necropsy and Infectious Coryza diagnosis.

Advice concerning other 2 chicks that were with sick chick, was kind of... inconclusive? I'm not saying they weren't helpful, because they have been very informative, understanding and communicative - but they just said it's kind of a crapshoot. Either I keep them seperate or just integrate them and hope for the best.

Anyone have any other advice? Chicks are on day 25 of quarantine but they (and we) are ready to get out of my basement.

25 days is pretty close to the 39 day recommended quarintine. I would go for it, but it's your call. I'm ready to get these stinky meat chicks out of my house already. At least they get a few days of field trips outside with this gorgeous weather.

I have been getting them outside here and there when it's nice out, on the opposite side of our property from my 3 hens. And I've been trying hard to stick with the quarantine and see it through. But my fiancée says they're ready to be out... And I really just feel bad to keep them like this.

However, I think I've got at least 1 boy (the Ameraucana) and I'm unsure of the GLW yet... so they may or may not be staying long anyway...

My 3 broody hens are now fighting over who will sit on the eggs (not really fighting, just taking up all the room and pushing out the little one. Who I would prefer to sit). My egg production has taken a hit,
of course, with 2 of my English Orphington distracted. Pushing them out doesn't work this time, especially since I'm encouraging one. I've heard of giving aspirin, to lower the body temp and pull them out of this phase. First of all, do you recommend it/ any concerns? And if so, how much is safe? Half a baby aspirin for a LF?

I don't know anything about the Aspirin, but if you want them to stop brooding you just have to break down and put them into broody breaker cages and get it over with. 3 days should have them back to about normal behavior and egg laying should kick back in within a rather short time.

I don't know if Terramycin will help or not but you could check your local TSC to see if they have any in. It's like neosporin for eyes.

I have had good results from this with eye problems. I got some that was made for another country and shipped back to the US for about 1/2 the price.

Garter snake. I am not sure if they even have teeth, lol but they do love ants....and your chickens might eat a snake too!

That's not far at all! Knisely's is a feed store in Carlisle, I was asking in case anyone knew which hatchery they used. They get a large variety of chicks and have their breed order schedule online. I picked up 5 hatchery quality Dominiques and an EE from them in March, all sexed as pullets, however 2 Doms were obvious cockerels at week 5 so I had been curious if anyone had similar experience with misgendered chicks from either them or the hatchery they use. Doms are supposed to be fairly easily sexed at hatch so it was rather disappointing.

If you have a link to the breed schedule, I bet I can tell you the hatchery.

If something 100 times bigger than you grabbed you and picked you up that high. it would probably scare the poop out of you too.

Looks like an Eastern garter snake, non venomous and good to have around (keep the copperheads away supposedly). Feisty little buggers.

Okay garters back home are dark green and yellow so wanted to check. I love snakes he can stay

I haven't heard of aspirin, and I agree with Fisherlady. A broody breaker is the best option if you can't let her hatch out. It is simply a cage with a wire bottom that is slightly elevated, so that her body cools down and she can't snuggle in a nest anywhere. I use a large dog cage. Make sure she has food and water. Usually about three days and they are back to laying.
