I'm sorry I'm probably going to be annoying today. I just saw her adjust a baby I think because it won't stop crying but still can't see it!!

@fisherlady How long has your longest broody taken?
I know Bonnie has fertile eggs. Today is day 22 or 23 (23 according to what I put in the app). I listened to each egg, but didn't hear anything. This is confusing me.![]()
I don't think you have to worry about being annoying.I'm sorry I'm probably going to be annoying today. I just saw her adjust a baby I think because it won't stop crying but still can't see it!!
We have a hen hatching today at day 24, she had 2 separate incidents of being pushed off the nest and the eggs chilling, so they are delayed.
Yep, frustrating that broodies don't have a viewing window like Incubators! Our girl now has 2 out and 2 pips, I left Mindy in the coop with her. I also put a wire grate in front of her nest to keep other nosey hens out. Hatched or not she will have to be moved to a broody hut this afternoon since we will be going to camp this evening. It isn't the issue of having chicks, it is the issue of wondering why they haven't hatched.I am sure I can round up some babies.
I am not certain without more research, but I know the purebred Delawares are all yellow at hatch. I think the dark will be dominant over the silver of the Delaware (that makes them yellow), so the hybrid chicks should be dark in color. Finally starting to collect eggs from our breeding pen to incubate. How long can I collect them before the oldest ones start getting too old? I should keep them on the counter until incubation time, right?
Anyone knowledgeable on chicken genetics want to take a crack at what I should expect from the chicks... if there are any gender specific traits or dominant feather colors, etc. I have a Delaware roo over dark Cornish hens. There are a few Delaware hens too, so it would be nice to have an idea what the cross will look like to be sure I can tell the pure Delawares from the crosses.
