Heading to camp so DH is driving and I took the chance to upload pictures I took today. We have 4 hens with chicks from 1 day -8 weeks old and 4 hens parked on eggs or waiting for eggs.
A few snaps from today...
Newest addition, a 7 month old Silver Pencil hen with her first hatch, she has 4 SPR chicks, with the 4th out just before we left for camp...

The Lavender Americaunas are taking over the yard, and they are not shy about begging...and doesn't every chick have a dog to climb on when a better view is Needed?

I was wondering how the lavenders were doing. They look great!

I just had a very boy heavy CCL hatch overnight. Some there's 4 girls parked on nests out there so I'm going to graft as many of them as I can to the girls. Hopefully they take them! If nothing else, I know Ana will lol

We kept 4 SPR pullets last fall to add to the breeding pen, but 2 of them are now broody and a 3rd is making noise about it and we still aren't getting eggs, lol...

Sold some more chicks today! And check out Uno our new baby! Still the only one but today was hatch day so we'll see... any tips on how to tell if anymore will hatch? I hope she's a frizzle :fl

There were fewer boys than I thought in this hatch. 4 boys, 5 girls and 1 that I'm not positive on. The 4 boys and 1 iffy one went outside. Only Ana was interested in adoption but the others just haven't been sitting very long yet. Like always, she's very happily caring for her 5 new babies. It's the biggest group I've ever given her. If she does a great job, I may give her a big clutch next time. I have a few more eggs going in to lockdown today. Then 1 more turkey egg due next Monday and the incubator will be empty. I'll have some BCM eggs coming within the month though. I'm hatching most of them for someone else but I'm getting a few for myself too. I think they're Little Peddler and Greenfire lines.

Niko keeps stealing eggs. Every day now, I have to lift her off the eggs to do a count and remove the ones I didn't mark. But the pencil is wearing off. Is there any real reason that at 2/3 of the way thru this incubation that I should not use a dry erase marker? I don't want to poison the clutch but need something that will last longer than a day or two.

I tried candling them also. Either the eggs are too dark shelled or my flashlight is not bright enough. Or both. I couldn't see anything. Not that there was no development, but that I couldn't see to tell. Good thing I only have another week to wait. It's like waiting for Santa!

I use a sharpie marker, we have yet to have a chick hatch with a tattoo.:plbb
I know, I know.....v:smack

What are your plans for the one turkey egg in the incubator?

That one is a wild turkey egg that my neighbor found. Either he will want it to raise up or I'm going to lol

Definitely use a sharpie. Every one of my eggs, whether they go in the bator or under a broody gets marked with a sharpie. Everyone is always fine :)

She is going to sit tight until Thursday. She has two eggs underneath her. They look about a week. I didn't see veins last night, but I was in a hurry. I didn't want everyone too upset.
I'll see if Sabrina has luck with her egg, then go from there.
