I'm concerned he will injure the soft spurs and start bleeding everywhere. I've read that you should keep them separated for a few days if removing the whole spur/sheath. You didn't have any trouble with that?
I've only done it with 2 roosters so far. The one in the picture was like that when i got him. Had to do something, so i tried it. One spur bled maybe 3 drops. The other none at all. The second rooster was a bantam cochin, his spurs were a little thicker and they did bleed a little. I held him and kept dipping the spur in flour. He finally jumped down and went back into his pen. He was mating a hen within an hour.
So I guess it depends on the rooster. But i was so amazed at how easy it was, I will do all of mine that way. And for the record, I'm a wuss when it comes to culling and such.
