I entered a "pet look-a-like" competition, and won the runner up!
Prize was a $20 Amazon voucher and this chicken bridge/swing thing. I'll set it up later and see what the chickens think of it. Should at some colour to the coop!
Sweet! That actually looks pretty fun, I hope the chickens enjoy it.

So do we actually have a PA swap? I've been looking in the chickenstocks and swaps forums but I haven't found anything. Should we try and plan one?

Picture time! Due to the hot weather we had today, I let the mama and babies out for a hour to free range with the flock. They were ok for the most part. All mama wanted to do was dust bathe so I watched the babies and kept our mean chickens away. I can't seem to post the video of them dust-bathing so here's pictures of them eating.

Also, I took a picture of two of our mixed girls. The front one is a Buff Orpington/Rhode Island Red and the one in the back is the daughter of our famous "buttless" chicken mixed with Orpington as well. They're probably not as pretty to you guys but I just love them and their uniqueness.

What a rough day it has been. Hawks kept flying around today so I was outside a lot more than usual to keep watch over everyone. I hope the hawks will stay away :smack

As long as I'm taking over the thread here...The darling Teenager only closed 4 of the 10 poultry pens last night (and told me EVERYTHING was closed up). The dogs were going crazy all night, we didn't realize why until we woke up this morning to chickens out everywhere. So far, they are all alive. There is a missing Easter Egger that may have gotten eaten, but she also may be busy laying an egg or routing through the goat's hay. I'll keep my fingers crossed until I know for sure.

Ok. So that's a teen thing... comforting to know I'm not the only one to deal with that. LOL!
So I've been hearing about fermented feed and would like to try. There is so much information out there that I am getting confused. Do I just get a bucket and put regular layer feed, water, and ACV in? Stir, and feed when the food has fermented? Do I keep it covered? How soon does it need to be emptied so that it does not grow mold? Can I also ferment their scratch grains? Sorry for all the questions lol.

Yep thats it. Make sure its wet enough to stir every day and it wont mold. You can mix in anything just make sure you take into account when doing treats. I was adding scratch and still tossing out my normal amount for treats so I took it out of feed. We make enough for almost two weeks at a time and have a screen over for bugs but still gets lots of air.
I'm just learning of this and glad for any extra info and tips!
I get plenty of broodies, they just are bad at it, killing chicks before they even try to take them out of the nest. I don't really care, I have incubators and brooders that are far more reliable than these broodies have been. I thought it would be cool to raise some guineas in with the broodies and see if they socialize with chickens better when broody raised. My guineas are all snobs and only deign to flock with other guineas.
I kept my guineas with my chicks in brooder so far. They seem as tame as the chicks and I can pet them while they are eating. We'll see what happens when they are out of the brooder. I'm just hoping they stay home and off the road!

A man with a plan! I love it. I

We've had a Kestral or Cooper's Hawk (maybe sharp shinned?) stalking the birds here, they're small, but so agile, it's scary.

BTW Gorgeous birds! Nice Feather quality, it says a lot about your animal husbandry. I was looking for the 'buttless' bird...I've heard of 'Rumpless' but never buttless
