Hi @dheltzel,

Do you order the Sandhill "Autumn Specials"?

"AUTUMN SPECIALS This is our season end specials of whatever is still laying and hatching. We start shipping as birds become available in September and have hatches through October. The order for these may be placed at any time, but the final cutoff date for orders to be received in our office is September 10, 2017. The shipping dates this year for the Autumn Specials are September 5 and 19, and October 3 and 17. These will be filled on a first come, first served basis and when we run out of birds, we run out. We will NOT CALL to let you know you are not getting birds, but will return your check at the end of the season."

Sounds like an exciting gamble that I will never be in a position to order.
Glenn and I have been trading emails and chicks. He sent me several boxes of chicks (as you know, you have some from 2 shipments) and I have sent him 1 large shipment and will be sending another in about 2 weeks. Glenn really likes the Lavender Ameraucanas and Legbars, so I'm trying to hatch more of those for him, hopefully enough he can offer those on his list next year, as least in small quantities. I have made both of those rather common around here, but they are not at all common in other places and Sand Hill has a unique ability to get them out to other breeders.

I'm hoping he will send me some of the rarer breeds that he has marked as sold out for the year once he has filled all the other orders he has, but his birds might be winding down on egg production like mine are. One day last week I only collected 6 Legbar eggs. It has been a long time since they have slacked off that much, but they do deserve a rest, those are some productive hens.

Crossing my fingers that he might hatch some of the Long Crowers for me. Talk about a breed that is hard to find! Seems like he has problems with them surviving and reproducing and so I'm not certain they will do well for me.

Finally took down the plastic...the same day as thunderstorms :th. Progress but what do I do about the rain splashing the mud? I'd like to stone like 6-12 inches around the outside.

The blue coop will move to attach to this side of the run

I had 2" river stone around our coop, and the chickens slowly but surely dug it up within a year. :/ Maybe larger stones or pavers would survive longer?

How do you like the corrugated sheets? I'm thinking of getting some for our run. I also have the same little blue coop! We are replacing it however, but I may keep it possibly for brooding reasons...

I hate how I don't always get alerts anymore. Thanks for the egg offers! I just saw them and think I have some coming already. Although she keeps hoping to whatever nesting box has more eggs right now!
So we got two more cows. That makes 4 and our limit!

And craft season is starting and my first show is next weekend. Totally not ready! To much going on.

@yoopergirl1211 Let me just say that I am IMPRESSED and always excited to see your posts of your growing homestead! What's the headcount now of all your animals? Good luck at your first craft show! What will you be making/selling?

Thanks! By this time next year all of the meat we eat we'll have raised! Lets see
3 dogs
3 goats
4 cows
25 ducks not counting babies I'm selling
10 turkeys
7 guineas
38 meat birds
And I'm not counting chickens lol because I'll have to admit I have a problem. Still missing pigs but they'll come in the spring. Oh and a cat.... and some wild turkeys we've been feeding back on the trails in our woods... I think thats it. I make coaster and trivets with a 100 different themes out of epoxy and ceramic tiles.
Heres one I did of my birds. It still needs a coat but they have a glass like surface when done.

Is anybody interested in a couple little gold laced seabright pullets? I got them this spring to keep my little Simon serama company but I've managed to get a couple serama girls for him. The seabrights should be coming in to lay in another month or so though their eggs will be tiny lol. Here's a picture of one of the girls with Simon.

I also have a few extra hens that need to find new homes. I seriously need to downsize lol.
