Pennsylvania!! Unite!!

My coop door froze open yesterday. I left it last night (they sleep in another area I can close off), and broke ice today. I still need to get a little more when I go out again. I was only feeding and watering, and still in need of more coffee. :caf
I’m not too worried about them in the coming days. I’ll be sure to provide plenty of corn for them to burn off (though not too much!).

I picked up two bales of straw yesterday and will get two more on Wednesday after my kids dentist appointments. I have a few ameraucanas in a kennel that will be moving back to the other pen that's wrapped in plastic for those few days to keep them warmer. The turkey pair that's in there though will have to stay. I'll load them up with extra straw in their box.

Our furnace went out last night and hubby couldn't get it going again so we're waiting impatiently for the repair people to call back to say they're coming. Hopefully, it won't cost a fortune to fix :/

:barnie Another one gone. It was lethargic this morning, but was mad when I was done cleaning up its bottom.

I was hoping it was just a cute photo (okay, it still is), but then checked. I called the feed store to tell them to check bottoms.

Are they feeding on medicated?...didn't know your thoughts on that on. I tried , once, to not go the medicated route...won't do it again. Figured with already having birds in the yard there is bound to be 'something' brought into the chicks, even with good bio-security. We just can not beat the micros-bugs.
I am sorry they re failing, hopefully that is the last one.
vitamin water too?...just throwing that out there ..I realize you do know what your doing;). Awesome thinking on calling the store. Hopefully they will do a look over those chicks & keep the handling of them to more of a minimum.
Our tsc here has their chicks roped-off so to avoid over enthusiastic hands:wee...not just the kids either. I have witnessed adults acting like "Lenny" from ' Of mice & men'...trying real hard not to go into a stink about doing your research before the purchase of ANY living being..:rant:duc..it is epidemic, but that is another story.
Anyway, hope they do well for you here on out. :hugs
If there’s grass growing, is there enough light for fowl? :caf
Still only getting one- if we are real lucky, two eggs a day here, just too cold right now for them to be using energy for egg laying...:idunno
We have their little coop door open today, they came out for a little while. If the air picks-up, door will be shut. Even with the low temps. coming , hey should be fine, just going to give them some extra "carbs" to help keep their heaters going.
(Corn & some boxed pasta that is OOD...They love noodles in any shape!)

:flhope it is an easy & cheap fix for you!! :hugs

I am planning the location of the quail pen. That in itself is enough to drive me insane. The place I was thinking is well protected, and near an outlet. No direct sunlight. I can move it out to the sidewalk, but... it’s the sidewalk. They need grass.
There is a nice place near another outlet... I have a few places to put them. I just wanted them near the house. I trust the chickens and ducks in the nasty weather, I don’t know quail yet.
Then there’s the rabbit hutch debate. It’s waaaaaaay away from outlets, and there are too many reasons to leave it where it is.
It would be so great though!
 I also need to decide how I’m fixing the prefab coop for the quail. Simple or better? :D I hope to decide this week, and start or complete it when we get into the forties next week. It’ll probably be raining, but I won’t melt.

guess I should at least get dressed today:caf...dogs need bathed, have to start making that tomato soup. Need to find someway to sleep better, these 2-3am nights are killing me:th
the paper whites started blooming already..
