HEY GANG! I'm alive and slightly frozen, BUT I'm doing okay!

Finally decided to pop back in all things considered. I will admit that I lost my mojo last summer when I lost my two favorite roos, and well I'll be honest the care of my birds suffered because of it. I'm not proud of that. :( But, I'm getting better and going out there and I literally just got in from feeding them just now. It's cold. Did I mention it's cold? CAUSE It'S COOOOLD!

Well, I've had quite the development today. In the form of this:

Yes... that's right. Those are goose eggs. Sophie made a nest and laid 3 beautiful (if not poop covered) eggs in the coop. In the middle of February. I checked the temperature on them with my hands before deciding whether it would be better to take them or not and I can firmly say that they are cold and she has not been sitting on them as far as I can tell. I'm gonna play it safe, get the brinsea up and running, and let them thaw for at least 24 hours. I'm not sure when she laid these (I'm thinking probably sometime in the last couple of days.) So my fingers are firmly crossed and I'm praying for a miracle. :fl

That being said if anyone has any updated info on hatching goose eggs from the last time I tried to do this (which it didn't work and they were all duds... I was not happy about that). Please let me know!

Anyways, Hello to anyone new! I'm Jack the crazy idiot with the chickens. Wait... that's not very descriptive... I'll come up with something! Hope ya'll are doing well and everyone's staying warm. I'm glad I'm back.

Welcome back Jack! I still have that pretty and VERY loving wyandotte you sold me and she is one of the few who is occasionally laying right now!
My one daughter made chocolate whoopie pies tonight. She put them out at my egg box to see if she can sell any.
My hubby and son LOVE whoopie pies! If only we lived closer to you!

Thanks Lelanae! :D I'm glad I'm back. Oh I'm so glad she's still doing alright! Unfortunately I'm down to 4 SLWs now out of my original flock, but they're actually the only ones laying anything at the moment, even with all this cold! I miss having my golden girls around, as I used to call them :gig

I always wondered where you got your golden girls and did you have them inside as babies? When I got Ivy from you, she was already laying, but she is remarkably friendly --always the firs to greet me and squat! AND --she is SO pretty too!

Awwwww!! Yes I brooded my little ones inside for a while! They actually were inside longer than they should have been because it took us so long to build their coop and then I would sit outside with them in my Chicken Sitting Chair and spend a few hours with them when I wasn't doing anything. I didn't really play with them or purposefully hold them but I will say my girls have always been good about me picking them up and tolerating it lol. I actually got all of my wyandottes from my local feed mill so Oley Valley Feed. At the time they ordered from a hatchery... Gosh I can't remember the name of it to save my life. I know they've changed hatcheries since then though. I'm not exactly happy about that but I know they have their reasons.

The goose selection has gone down a lot too. :/

EDIT: I REMEMBERED THE HATCHERY! It's Privett! Which they finally got their website fixed up! :D Here's the link http://www.privetthatchery.com

EDIT EDIT: I sent them an email requesting a price list/sheet via email or snail mail. I'll let you all know when I get it and if anyone wants a copy I'll scan it for you!
