Here's my coop progress: Base and 4 walls up. :yesss: I was going to buy a 8x8 shed, but hubby doesn't like it with 2x3 for frame. So he decided to help me build a 8x10 coop. We have 2x8 for base and 2x4 for wall. 4 large windows and two doors. I'm very happy with the design so far. We will start roofing next weekend.

Looks great! Can't wait to see the finished product!

I agree with hubby on this.... converted sheds are great, and work well for many years, but for versatility and heavy weather resistance a purpose built 4x4 stud wall building is best if you have the ability to do it. Most household windows and doors with fit right into the framework without adjustments. Also nice that if you sell the property later it will add more value.

Yeah, I like it a lot. Will update when we have more done. Hopefully, we can have coop done before it's too cold. Hubby will not work in cold. :idunno

I planned to buy a shed kit, because hubby said that he could not help and I didn't have too much wood work skill if any at all. I was going to cut some ventilations and making plexiglass windows etc. Now with 4 large 38"X59" windows and two doors, the coop is much better. :celebrateI also like the 2x8 base that is very sturdy.

It’s time to come clean. I’m almost out of birds, and I don’t know why.
The quail are all fine, and I never did get a secure pen setup for them. I will have to move them before winter, but the point is that it isn’t raccoons or other ground dwelling critter.
Yesterday morning another hen went missing. The last two are locked in the coop. The rooster has been sleeping on the roof of the house (?!) for about two weeks. I am trying to tempt him into the building.
So what can get a bunch of birds, one at a time, without feathers, crying out, or a body during the day? Of course I think humans, but even that would mean screaming birds.

The only thing we have trouble with is hawks and eagles. Saw 2 bald eagles flying around the other day! Fall is migration time so my chickens have been locked up for a while. I'm so sorry you have been losing your birds. I hope you figure it out!
