The cousins two doors down have at least one new large dog I’ve suspected. I know how it sounds when Maaco goes after them, so I have myself convinced it couldn’t be. If a dog actually wants to kill, is it instant silence?

When my hound got my chicken.....the chicken was noisy as all get out trying to get away....in dogs defense I think he was just trying to play....didn’t injure him just gave him heart attack no marks or blood

Maaco got it in his head to be a jerk. He did kill two or three. He’s stopped again, but I will never trust him again.

It’s time to come clean. I’m almost out of birds, and I don’t know why.
The quail are all fine, and I never did get a secure pen setup for them. I will have to move them before winter, but the point is that it isn’t raccoons or other ground dwelling critter.
Yesterday morning another hen went missing. The last two are locked in the coop. The rooster has been sleeping on the roof of the house (?!) for about two weeks. I am trying to tempt him into the building.
So what can get a bunch of birds, one at a time, without feathers, crying out, or a body during the day? Of course I think humans, but even that would mean screaming birds.

I'm thinking fox. A fox got all my neighbor's chickens one by one like that before. Very quietly and no one heard any noise. It's so sad. Her daughter hand raised all the chickens in her bedroom and she was heart broken. Poor girl. Those were the friendlest and calmest chickens that I ever saw.

:gig I just spent five minutes reprimanding Steven for sleeping on the chimney. He’s next to it now, and settled in for the night.
I almost had him in the coop today, but a hen ran out, and he stepped back out to mate her. Tomorrow I will see if I can get the girls to jump into the storage room, and then get him to walk into the coop. Before, I was relying on him to walk in the storage door like he’s done a million times before.
