Pennsylvania!! Unite!!

I gave the command for Maaco to come outside with me. He peed up a storm (which he would have held until noon, I swear), and then apparently spent the rest of the time catching snowflakes. :gig I came up from the coop, and he’s flying up into the air, his mouth snapping shut, repeat.
The SPR have no issues running for me when I put down scratch.
Steven and the littles are okay. The quail seem calmer. I don’t know if it’s more space or the company. Not that they were flushing before. I just have not seen flying in the two days since expanding their area, and letting Steven and his chicks in.

:gig An image of Eddie is in my head now.

So another installment in the Mindy and Dillon saga... You all know how Mindy loves spending time with her chicks in the coop, and as she has gotten older (10 y/o now) her coat has thinned with a few flares of skin allergies and frequent baths to ease the itch. So anyways, she was out chick watching a few weeks ago and wouldn't come inside when I asked, I went back out a half hour later and she was reluctant but grudgingly came out of the coop and I realized she was shivering! I ruled No more chick watching in cold weather, the next weekend we were out coop cleaning and I heard her teeth chattering! So we decided to ignore her dignity and get her a coat. (She hates her life jacket) so she can stay out like she wants when we are doing chores.
So we found her a parka for coop duty and a fleecy for lighter duty cold days. And amazingly it seems she loves them! She has been happy to come running to get them on and even happier to be allowed out on unrestricted coop duty again.

Time will tell on the hardiness of this particular coat but her chest and some belly are covered and we like the sleeves so her elbows and armpits are cushioned and warm also.
Now for the Dillon side of the saga. He is an attention hound, and scary smart and sensitive. He is also an English shepherd (actually Mindys nephew) and at almost 7 years old he has a great coat and spends time outside without any problems. But we realized he is jealous of Mindy's coat! He was literally trying to get us to put it on him instead of her and pouting when we didnt. So we decided to try something... took a small sweatshirt ($3 clearance item) and cut off the sleeves and ta-da! Instant special Dillon coat! :celebrate
He thinks he is something special when he gets to wear it now and prances around with his 'look at me' attitude. :gig silly dog!

Now if he could only figure out a way to roll up a pack of Beggin Strips in one of those cool, tough guy sleeves!

Steven may be the old rooster, but old is tough, and attitude is (almost) everything when it comes to territorial issues. The SPR has already been well schooled by our senior boys as he was growing up so he knows to respect the authority of the king rooster and I doubt he is quite up to trying to dethrone Steven yet. I am hoping Steven has the tolerance his Daddy (Grayson) had for young whippersnappers. As long as they stayed out of his way, acted respectfully and didn't harass hens he was fine with leaving them peacefully coexist in the coop. I know it isn't a very likely scenario but we can hope...

Steven has never had an issue with newbies, but I never planned on letting Steven stay in the coop with a new cock. I want ML to know the girls are his, and Steven can be satisfied being Dad to his pre-teen chicks. It’s less confusion. I might change my mind in a few weeks, but it’s the current plan.
