So hatch is almost done, 1 pip left but not sure if it is going to progress. We moved about a dozen early hatches to the 'brinsea box' to rest overnight and they will go to hens today. The later hatches will go to the box this morning and out to hens tonight after their wellness check.
We pulled the first batch for their final wellness check a few moments ago, giving each to Mindy to cuddle while we checked the next one. The chicks snuggle into her fluff and she makes a wonderful chick watcher as we check the others.

So between the heat lamp and a supplemental heat pad I got my little chickies nice and toasty, but as occasionally happens, one of them just didn’t stick around. The white Marans died today. :hit Very confusing, she seemed a little weak to start with (1 week old today), she hobbled and the other 2 kept holding her up. Very sad.

Oh no, I am so sorry! I am glad he was able to have his loved ones with him. It is still so difficult but having been through losses in hospitals, hospice care and home I would still rather be home. Please take care of yourself during this time... it is so easy to get run down and sick yourself when going through such a rough time.

Sorry to hear you lost one. It certainly happens to all of us no matter how hard we try. We can do everything right and still have losses. Unfortunately so are just too weak. Mother nature protects the masses through 'survival of the fittest' ... it is hard on us as lovers of animals though.
 
I'm so sorry, Dennis. Fisherlady is right about that you need to take care of yourself. This year's flu and cold seems very bad. When you run down, it's easy to get sick.

I am so very sorry for your loss :( It's great that you were all able to be there with him. Like the others said, please the care of yourself in this difficult time.

So sorry for your loss. I’m so glad, though, that he was ready and with family. It makes it so much easier. A pastor at my church always says that a loved one who has died is more alive than those he leaves behind, because he is with Jesus and knows His love better than we can here. I hope that helps. ❤ ✝
