Pennsylvania!! Unite!!

Hi, just wanted to shout out as a new Pennsylvanian on this thread. Getting my very first chicks in a few weeks (I hope) via mailorder, as all the local places wouldn't even return my calls. I am hoping to end up with 3-4 hens to free range (during the day) in my suburban, fenced in backyard. I am a bit concerned about getting live chicks mail order -- my post office has a habit of losing packages, even in the best of times (and these are closer to "the worst of times.")

I have chicks hatching in Chester County, if you don't want to do mail order. My website is welbars.com. I "specialize" in colored egg layers, and breeds/hybrids that can be sexed easily when hatched.

My birthday coupon arrived from TSC. Are they seriously encouraging me to leave the house? Okay, so I’ll need feed this month. I still think it’s funny.

I got one from Sheetz.... I bet tractor supply will send me mine closer to the end of the month. You're right though, what good are the coupons going to be lol

Welcome from Cambria county! What kind of chicks did you order? Stay safe!

Hope everyone out there is staying safe and at home right now. If anyone needs anything, please let me know since I work at walmart. I can try to get it for you and mail it to you. No promises of course. Just depends on what's available.

I've decided to stop my breeding plans early. I can't sell chicks right now and already have full brooders. So today, everyone will be released from their breeding pens, back in to one flock. Hopefully the squabbles are mild. The only eggs I'll be setting after this weekend will be turkey. Don't worry @TillyPeeps , I have several ameraucana eggs going so at last one has to be a pullet.

And @AnneInTheBurbs where are you!

Thank you. :love

If you are not breed chicks now, maybe you can consider to make some face masks for sell on ebay. Here's a link about how to make it:

It looks like soon they will suggest everybody to wear masks but there's a huge shoratge. Someone sells one mask for $15 and take them months to ship. Since you are making these chicken saddles, you should be able to make masks.

Several people have mentioned that to me. Maybe I will. I don't have a ton of fabric right now but I'll see what I can do. I just might do that.

@OneMountainAcres
I had thought that also, you could make some extra money and your skills are definitely up to it!

Are the swaps at TSC cancelled since the shut down?

I have someone coming this afternoon to buy 12 hens and at least 1 rooster. She was a member on here years ago and previously took one of my roosters for her flock and she absolutely loved the fellow. He passed from old age and she let the hens go then also for a year or so but she is wanting birds again.
I have to drastically reduce my numbers because DH may be needing a surgery soon and I will probably need to move our flock to our barn property over in Clarion county for an extended stay while we deal with the medical recovery. Ideally I want to get down to under 20 adults.
